Description (EN):

AdSWiM project is built around the Urban WW and depuration plants and it aims of assessing whether the treated UWW from DP, in EU limits of composition, can be used as controlled points of nutrients supply, in particular phosphorus, with eliminated risks for both the hygienic quality of the bathing water and the ecosystem stability. This goal is obtained through several well defined activities either at DP level or in marine environment. The initial survey of the health state of the Adriatic Sea is organized to transfer and balance the knowledge cross-border among PP. The project investigates new treatments, new analytical devices and new chemical and microbiological parameters to maintain and improve the environmental quality conditions of sea and costal area and of the BW quality through the control of the WW.The impact and transferability of project results, also to stakeholders outside the Programme area, are obtained through the preparation of cross-border agreed guidelines to manage WW and DP and drawing up legislative proposal for an appropriate review of the effects on the environment of the legislation itself, in relation to the territorial specificities, to preserve the habitat/status ecological status and to contribute to maintain high the quality level of bathing water. Achievements (EN):

The project started in 2019 and is going to close on December 31, 2021. In 36 months, 6 research institutions, 2 municipalities, 3 companies of wastewater collection, treatment and supply and 1 unit for regulation and provision of health care and education to public have investigated and devised new treatments, new analytical devices and new chemical and microbiological parameters of the waste water. They’ve examined the level of nutrients, pollutants and faecal bacteria near marine discharges and depuration plants by sampling, testing, analysing and comparing the data. They’ve performed more than 100 events (in person and online) to inform, educate and disseminate data and transfer knowledge. They’ve created 7 types of communication material (leaflets, flyers, brochures, posters, rollups, short presentation and infographics videos) and 11 different promotional items in order to promote awareness and encourage responsible behaviour towards the environment, in particular water and marine habitat and ecosystems. In order to increase the efficiency of the AdSWiM research outputs, they have prepared new Adriatic guidelines and a common measurement model for more efficient wastewater treatment management.

Expected Outputs (EN):

Definition of a set of shared policy in water management and quality objectives.This result is obtained from comparison between legislative framework to the programming documents at local,regional, national and Community levels. The strategy is completed with the joint elaboration of proposals for legislative action. The activity is complete with the realization of training modules aiming to disseminate the project results and knowledge.
