Achievements (EN):

The overall objective of the project "Advanced Forest nursery" was to increase cross-border economic interaction and trade, and the specific objective was to develop the innovative model of the forest nursery business in Karelia and Finland based on the best Finnish practices. The project consisted of 3 work packages (WPs) with 3 different outputs, namely WP1 (Construction of the Demo nursery with the best Scandinavian technologies and practices in Karelia), WP2 (Guidebook for transboundary Forest Nursery business development) and WP3 (high quality seedlings have been grown for the Karelian market). The demo nursery started its full operation during fall 2019 at Vidlitsa, the Republic of Karelia in Russia. Openings of the nursery were celebrated in late autumn 2019. The knowledge, experience and expertise form the personnel of the Finnish nursery practitioner partners - Pohjan Taimi Ltd., and Taimitarha Timo Korhonen Ltd. helped a lot in different stages of planning and construction of the Demo nursery at Vidlitsa, Karelian Republic of Russia. Fortunately, the covid panepidemic did not yet prevent expert visits of Timo Korhonen to Vidlitsa and on-site training of the Demo nursery personnel at Pohjan Taimi's nursery site at Juuka, North Karelia, Finland in summer 2019. The Demo nursery produced some 1 900 000 containerized conifer tree seedlings during the years 2020, 2021 and 2022 (altogether three harvesting years), and almost all produced seedlings were sold and distributed to the customers. The Demo nursery is operating successfully under the management of the Limited Liability Company - Lesnoe bureau. Till 30th June 2022, a total 1 900 000 containerized conifer seedlings were produced and most of them were sold to the customers. Some 20 companies in Russia announced their willingness to buy seedlings from the owner of the demo nursery. The guidebook for transboundary forest nursery business development will serve another great achievement of the project. The project personnel from the University of Eastern Finland, the Pohjan Taimi Ltd. and Taimitarha Timo Korhonen Ltd. are playing a leading role in the finalization of the guidebook.

Expected Results (EN):

- Innovate nursery technology and practice in Karelia to produce cost-efficient and high-quality planting material, which is suitable for intensive and sustainable forest regeneration and management; - Open a totally new operational area in Republic of Karelia that could be used by Finnish nursery enterprises to struggle the situation on the market of planting material in Finland; - Allocate existing resources that could be used for sustainable development of nursery enterprises in Finland and Karelia.

Expected Outputs (EN): 1. Level of competences of relevant target groups is improved. 2. Museum tourist facilities at the regional level are established. 3. Awareness of the existing museum tourist services and products is increased.
