Description (EN): The Urban Parks brands of Kajaani and Kostamus are well-known and recognized sources of personal health, community well-being and social economic growth for the local residents and tourists.

Создание на территории городских парков привлекательной, чистой и безопасной среды как источника здоровья и благополучия и социально-экономическое развитие жителей, туристов и местных предприятий.

Achievements (EN):

The main goal of the Urban Parks & Benefits project was to make Kajaani and Kostomuksha known and valued as sources of health and well-being environment for individuals and communities, as well as promoters of socio-economic growth for residents and tourists. The implementation period of the project started on the 1st of January 2019 ending on the 31st of March 2021 The lead partner of the project was Metsähallitus Wildlife and Parks, the Kostomuksha Nature Reserve was a partner, and the Vaara Art Collective from Kajaani was a billing partner. The project was implemented in close cooperation and partnership with the City of Kajaani. The events implemented as a part of the project were carried out in cooperation with various associations and organizations in the region of Kainuu, Finland. Key results of the project in Kajaani: •Four different events were organized at the network's nearby nature sites (6 sites); two in 2019 and two in 2020. •A series of six articles describing nearby nature sites were published in the local free distribution magazine (circulation 36,400). •Access control was implemented at Ruin Castle •All the signs of the Ruin Castle have been renewed: visual appearance, content, number of signs. •The safety of the Ruin Castle has been improved by adding railings and changing the existing railing structures. •Signs indicating the danger of climbing and falling from the Castel Ruins •The lighting of Ruin Castle, Rantapuisto and Kyynäspäänniemi was renewed (in total 127 lighting points). •An event power centre has been installed in Kyynäspäänniemi. •A tear-off brochure about Ruin Castle was produced in four languages: Finnish, English, Russian and Swedish.

Expected Results (EN):

The urban parks of Kajaani and Kostamus will be a well-known concept of coalition of natural and cultural values and urban recreation. In their territory the urban parks will provide an attractive, clean and safe environment as a source of health & wellbeing and social economic growth to the residents, tourists and local enterprises. After the project the first parks of the concept will be in a good condition, easy to reach and of good access, and implemented in sustainable, effective and eco-friendly ways. After the implementation of the project activities using the parks will be activated and amount of visitors in parks will increase. More residents of the towns of Kajaani and Kostamus will recognize the recreational value of the green areas as a source of their health and wellbeing.

Expected Outputs (EN):

1) Urban parks manager networks are established and active in Kajaani and Kostamus. 2) Pilot sites in the Urban parks concept have eco-friendly and service designed customer paths, providing outstanding visitor experiences. 3) Urban parks communication & marketing concept is implemented in Kajaani and Kostamus and communicated to wider public audiences. Users of green spaces have better understanding of the benefits of visiting urban parks. 4) Target groups of the project (managers of parks and other stakeholders) have increased understanding about the benefits of healthy nature connection and the use of green spaces. 5) Local ownership in Kajaani and Kostamus parks is strong and vandalism on sites is in control. 6) Businesses are able to create new products and increase their economical viability by using attractive urban parks in Kajaani and Kostamus. 7) Locals participate actively in management of selected urban parks sites and organize events in sites.
