Description (EN): The objective of the project: to increase competitiveness of cultural services and products by upgrading service design practices ess of cultural services and products has been increased by upgrading service design practices.

Achievements (EN):

The aim of the project was to increase the competitiveness of cultural services and products. The aim of the project was to facilitate the development of competitive, sustainable and diverse cultural services based on local heritage. They would be easily accessible, customer requirements and well-known locally and internationally by actively introducing service planning methods into the activities of cultural operators. Cooperation between the cultural sector and the creative industries operating in the ethno-cultural sector will be extended in order to better promote local heritage and make it not only an advantage but also a resource for the development of a cross-border area. Target groups and project beneficiaries: The target groups of the project included local cultural institutions, cultural operators (providers) working as part of the private creative sector and interested in promoting the local heritage through services. The beneficiaries of the project were tourism companies; local authorities and decision-making bodies tourists; local people; usually younger people who use cultural services. The start of the project was delayed by the internal organization of the main Russian coordinator, as well as intermittent language problems. Karelia UAS, Taito North Karelia and Most Oy started planning training packages, training, event production, networking of entrepreneurs in the craft and creative sectors, and conducting a background study at the beginning of 2021. Due to the corona pandemic, all meetings and trainings had to be transferred to remote implementations. Similarly, trade fair meetings and events had to be cancelled. The planned cross-border collaboration was replaced by remote meetings via Teams. In the spring of 2022, after the start of the war in Russia, all cooperation between the Russian side was cut off. The coordination of the project was transferred to Karelia University of Applied Sciences, and the project's activities were directed only to the North Karelia region. During the project, training packages were compiled and networks of actors were strengthened for the needs of craft and creative entrepreneurs. The training material and networks can be utilised and further developed in the future. Due to the end of cooperation in the Russian network, it is important to find new international networks and partners.

Expected Results (EN):

The project will facilitate the development of competitive, sustainable and diverse cultural services based on local heritage. They are easily reached, demanded by costumers and well-known locally and internationally through active introduction of service design methods in the cultural operators activity. These services are contemporary both in content and distribution channels but at the same time do not distort the original identity of local heritage. They are requested as a part of the cultural tourism packages or tourist destinations. Cooperation between cultural sector and creative industries working in ethnocultural sphere is expanded to better promote local heritage and make it not just an advantage but a resource for developing the cross-border area. Efficient networking instruments are introduced. They are developed using both best international practices and regional context received through background study of local market. This cooperation is sustainable and long-term, contributes to diversification of business activity in relevant sphere, increases the capacities of all parties to be more active players in the regional market as well as work internationally. Younger consumers star to use cultural services based on cultural heritage.

Expected Outputs (EN):

Main outputs the project will produce: - New cross-border regional opportunities ("growth areas") are identified to develop services with the focus on the regional component of the cross-border territory and wider use the potential of the local cultural operators; - Sustainable service-design training and mentoring instruments are developed and introduced for cultural operators (providers); - New approaches in providing services are developed and promoted via the created International ethno sound/dance and design center (900 clients are expected) .
