EMOUNDERGROUNDS challenge is to give a concrete contribution to the valorisation of the extraordinary richness and potentials of the targeted cultural assets, that will allow a sustainable, smart and inclusive growth of the whole ADRION area. The project addresses the Programme S.O. 2.1, Topic 1 “Preserve, capitalize and innovate cultural and natural heritage” focused in supporting cultural heritage preservation and sustainable tourism, rising its competencies and skills also with the support from creative industries. The overall project objective is to boost the attractiveness/competitiveness of the involved transnational tourist destinations creating a new common cultural-creative tourist product. Changes are expected in public policies of cultural heritage/tourism management, in tourist services integration and in the involvement of cultural-creative industries skills. Main Outputs are: a new TRANSNATIONAL COOPERATION NETWORK among CREATIVE CULTURAL TOURISM OPERATORS, a TRANSNATIONAL ACTION PLAN to implement a better valorisation of the ADRION tourist destinations, a TRANSNATIONAL STRATEGY for the smart, sustainable and inclusive management of target sites, 10 SMALL SCALE INVESTMENTS as pilot applications of technological, multimedia and interactive installations to manage, enjoy and enhance the cultural sites, 6000 NEW VISITS TO CULTURAL SITES by 30 cross-cultural events. Both visitors and sites managers will benefit from them. The project approach includes the animation of a public-private system to manage the transnational tourist-product, the development of emotional joint paths across cultural sites,capacity building, cross-cultural contamination and dissemination. Project territorial challenges can only be faced at transnational level, as they entail a holistic approach. The project provides innovative solutions rising the enjoyment potential of users, by virtual reality rooms, smart mobile applications, holographic demos, interactive screens/projections.

Achievements (EN):

EMOUNDERGROUNDS is the acronym of “Emotional technologies for the cultural heritage valorisation within cross-border undergrounds” and its motto that is “Preserve, capitalize and innovate cultural and natural heritage” clearly puts the project focus into words. EMOUNDERGROUNDS involves fortresses, castles of the Adriatic-Ionian region with the purpose of reopening these sites by the integration of CCI. These sites will be revamped through the use of digital technologies, such as virtual reality rooms, smart mobile applications, holographic demos, interactive screens/projections. The 10 partner communities participating in the project are Bosnia Herzegovina (Trebinje), Italy (Nardo– Lead partner, Carpi), Greece (Andravida-Killini), Croatia (Rijeka and Šibenik), Slovenia (Koper, Ivančna Gorica), Montenegro (Bar) and Albania (Kukeš). One event named “ADRI Showcase”, was organized by the project with the involvement of local artists in Nardò, an Italian historical center. The event was an opportunity for artists to present their artworks with suggestive colored light projections on buildings, games and music. The event turned the historic city of Nardò into a magical place. In addition, the project contributed to the revitalization of Carpi’s artistic treasures through virtual installations. The town is located in Italy and is distinguished by its great Renaissance square and beautiful town hall (formerly a castle) which are at the centre of this video storytelling initiative to promote the ancient splendour of the town. An information center and 3d paths are being created as part of the project particularly at the Torrione degli Spagnoli and Sala del Guerriero. These installations will be a bridge between the past and present of this amazing patrimony.

Expected Results (EN): Level of capacity for the stakeholders in the fields of natural and cultural heritage protection and tourism to sustainably valorise natural and cultural heritage as a growth asset

Expected Outputs (EN):

EMOUNDERGROUNDS main result is clearly linked to the Programme result indicator as it consists in the enhancement of the level of capacity of the relevant stakeholders operating in project territories in the fields of cultural heritage protection and tourism. WPT3 (Capacity building, education and cross-cultural contamination events) will directly match this result, even if all the other WPs and tasks are strictly linked to achievement of this main excepted change. The expected changes are in fact : - An integrated-improved tourist services offer. - Increased competencies of the public and private actors of creative industries for cultural heritage preservation and sustainable tourism. Other expected results are: - Closer European integration in target areas, Cooperation improved, Public Authorities and private tourist and culture operators being networked, experiences exchanged and best practices transfer among transnational territories. - Widespread visibility and better fruition of the targeted tourist destinations. - Tourist flows, related to the cultural heritage, increased. - Local Communities granting benefits; Wider dissemination of Adriatic-Ionian regions culture, history, art and better knowledge of creative-cultural heritage. - Level of accessibility of the involved cultural sites and improved territories, respecting equal opportunities principles. - Policy makers and Tour Operators ablest to manage tourism and culture promotion. - Harmonious, sustainable, inclusive and smart development of the involved territories. - Transnational historic-artistic goods enhanced. - Creative culture valorised and standard of life revitalized. Project will assure an important contribution to raising the capacity level of stakeholders operating in cultural heritage protection and tourism field to valorize in a sustainable way cultural heritage as a growth asset of Project and Programme area.
