In the current context of persistent drought in the Southwestern regions of Europe (SUDOE area), which are experiencing more and more difficult fire events related to prolonged periods of drought and high winds, research on alternatives that contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions is of the highest priority. KET4F-Gas is a European project co-funded by the Interreg Sudoe Programme which aims at reducing the environmental impact of fluorinated gases (F-gases) through the development and implementation of Key Enabling Technologies (KETs). The use of fluorinated gases has drastically increased in recent years, especially in the refrigeration sector, as they are a good substitute for ozone-depleting substances that phased out under the Montreal’s Protocol. Despite being energetically efficient, ozone-friendly and safe for users, with low levels of flammability and toxicity, F-gases are powerful greenhouse gases, with a global warming effect up to 23 000 times greater than carbon dioxide, and their emissions to the atmosphere must be reduced according to the Kyoto’s protocol and the new EU regulation.

En el contexto actual de sequía persistente en las regiones del sudoeste europo (área SUDOE), que sufren cada vez más eventos de incendios difícilmente controlables, relacionados con períodos prolongados de sequía y fuertes vientos, la investigación sobre alternativas que contribuyan a reducir las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero es de la más alta prioridad. KET4F-Gas es un proyecto europeo cofinaciado por el Programa Interreg Sudoe que tiene como objetivo principal reducir el impacto ambiental de los gases fluorados a través del desarrollo y la implementación de Tecnologías Facilitadoras Esenciales (TFE). El uso de los gases fluorados ha aumentado drásticamente en los últimos años, en especial en el sector de la refrigeración, al ser buenos sustitutos de sustancias responsables de la destrucción de la capa de ozono que deben ser eliminadas en virtud del Protocolo de Montreal. A pesar de ser energéticamente eficientes, inocuos para el ozono y seguros para los usuarios, con bajos niveles de inflamabilidad y toxicidad, los gases fluorados son potentes gases de efecto invernadero, con un efecto de calentamiento global hasta 23 000 veces mayor que el del dióxido de carbono, y sus emisiones a la atmósfera debe reducirse de acuerdo con el protocolo de Kioto y la nueva regulación de la UE.

No atual contexto de seca persistente das regiões do sudoeste europeu (área SUDOE), que sofrem cada vez mais eventos de incêndios dificilmente controláveis, relacionados com períodos prolongados de seca e fortes ventos, a investigação sobre alternativas que contribuam para a redução das emissões de gases de efeito estufa é da mais alta prioridade. KET4F-Gas é un projeto europeu cofinanciado pelo Programa Interreg Sudoe que tem como principal objetivo reduzir o impacto ambiental de gases fluorados através do desenvolvimento e implementação de Tecnologias Facilitadoras Essenciais (TFE). O uso de gases fluorados tem aumentado drasticamente nos últimos anos, especialmente no setor de refrigeração, já que eles são um bom substituto para as substâncias que empobrecem a camada de ozônio que foram eliminadas pelo Protocolo de Montreal. Apesar de serem energeticamente eficientes, favoráveis ao ozono e seguros para os utilizadores, com baixos níveis de inflamabilidade e toxicidade, os gases fluorados são poderosos gases com efeito de estufa, com um efeito de aquecimento global até 23 000 vezes superior ao dióxido de carbono e as respectivas emissões para a atmosfera devem ser reduzidas de acordo com o protocolo de Kyoto e o novo regulamento da UE.
