Description (EN):

CEMOWAS2 is a new challenge of circular economy applied to the local authorities competencies regarding organic waste and products from purification processes (sludge and sewage). This approach requires a new vision based on “ waste becomes a resource” which will reduce the impact on the environment and promote new economic models. The project contributes to European challenges due to the circular economy package. The lack of European regulations regarding the quality of new products from waste valorization as well as reused waters, underlines the importance of the cooperation between countries to outline and propose new rules and good practices. The project aims at reinforcing the capacities of the public authorities through the joint experimentation for the implementation of six territorial management strategies – main products of the project. Those strategies will be aligned with the shared knowledge between partners and experts and the solutions of valorization, implemented and testes. They will be based on the involvement of regional actors and the support of other key stakeholders (research centres, trade chambers, etc.)

Expected Results (EN):

The project will build up a database on the waste & sewage management and ways to improve the current management through the technological, economic and social innovation. Furthermore, the project will develop six territorial strategies and implement demonstrative actions to valorize waste which will become resources. Those results will feed a virtual platform to disseminate methods, tools and good practices in order the producers and managers of waste and water to choose the most adequate option to manage their waste from the technological, social, environmental and economic point of view. The project will organize several actions of dissemination and promotion to transfer the results to other Sudoe’s territories as well as a final European Seminar. It will also carry out regular assessment and formulate recommendations at regional and national levels regarding circular and ecosystem management of waste and sewage management services. Lastly, the developed strategies will be optimized and transferred to other territories in order to use the local resources in a more efficient way and consequently, guarantee the protection of the natural heritage of the involved areas. The latter will have therefore the opportunity to improve their policies on sustainable development.
