TUNE UP is a multi-module project tackling the need for a strategic and collaborative approach to Med MPAs management and biodiversity protection, by testing and capitalizing a multi-stakeholder/multi-level governance tool based on River/Wetland Contracts experience tested by the INTERREG MED WETNET project.TUNE UP will build on WETNET results exploiting the flexibility and feasibility of the River/Wetland Contract methodology further developing it to MPAs management, assessing its effectiveness through the implementation of 11 MPA Contracts. TUNE UP approach is based on vertical and horizontal subsidiarity, to achieve coordination among institutions at all involved levels, as well as to integrate funding, resources and plans. Indeed, the project will ensure higher coordination among stakeholders and decision makers, limiting raising conflicts between preservation and economic issues, and will enhance the goal of biodiversity protection.Thus, the project intends to achieve the following results: 1. Stronger, coordinated and proactive involvement of key stakeholders in MPAs management. 2. Improved effectiveness of MPAs management by integrating multilevel governance tools into national and regional policy instruments. 3. More intensive transnational cooperation and networking between Med MPAs. The partnership involves different types of actors operating in MPAs management, so it will allow TUNE UP to ensure high transferability of main outputs to Med Countries.

TUNE UP est un projet multimodules répondant au besoin d'une approche stratégique et collaborative de la gestion des AMP en Méditerranée. Le projet a pour objectif d’améliorer la protection de la biodiversité en testant et en capitalisant un outil de gouvernance multiacteurs/multiniveaux basé sur l'expérience des Contrats de riviere/zone humide testé par INTERREG MED Wetnet.Dans cette perspective, TUNE UP s'appuiera sur les résultats de Wetnet, exploitant la flexibilité de la méthodologie, en évaluant son efficacité via la mise en œuvre de 11 Contrats de AMP. L'approche TUNE UP est basée sur l’intégration verticale et horizontale, afin de réaliser la coordination entre les institutions, ainsi que l’intégration du financement, des ressources et des plans d’action. Le projet assurera une meilleure coordination entre stakeholder, limitant ainsi les conflits entre la conservation et les problèmes économiques, et en renforçant l'objectif de protection de la biodiversité. Le projet vise à atteindre les résultats suivants: 1. Participation accrue, coordonnée et proactive des principales stakeholder de AMP. 2. Amélioration de l'efficacité de la gestion des AMP en intégrant des outils de gouvernance multiniveaux dans les instruments nationaux et régionaux. 3. Intensification de la coopération transnationale et de la mise en réseau des Med AMP.Le partenariat implique différents types d’acteurs dans la gestion des AMP. Il permettra donc à TUNE UP d’assurer transférabilité aux pays Med.

Achievements (EN):

TUNE UP Project has managed to run relatively smoothly during this Reporting Period despite the COVID 19 pandemic and the issue that occurred with the Italian partners' expenses regarding staff costs that have to be declared at the external experts budget line.TUNE UP continued to cooperate closely with MBPC during this period by being in continuous contact with Plan Bleu.The project has participated in one international event in the framework of D 5. 6.1 while the second participation has already been scheduled. WP3 and WP4 have been concluded and the Module Shift took place successfully in October 2021. WP5 activities are on track with all partners having contributed to the elaboration of the outline of the Regional MoU while at the same time preparing their Capacity Building Seminars.
