Description (EN):

The high-density character of urban areas places acute pressures on transport systems through the sheer volume of movement of goods and people that move through a city, especially, on seasonal demand periods. In addition to strategic planning, however, making urban mobility sustainable also demands cooperation. Mobility is an issue that transcends formal city boundaries; not only do air pollution and other environmental impacts have no respect for administrative divisions, but the efficient and sustainable transport also demands cooperation across municipal authorities and with other levels of government. The present project correspond to a second generation of the capitalization strategy of the Interreg-Med, which envisages promoting the transferring of results and policies developed by the Urban Transports Community, through mainstreaming and strategic liaising’s series of activities at transnational level. The Urban Transports partnership is deeply specialized on Urban Transports and networking in the Mediterranean. The horizontal project, will contribute to a unique identity on mobility planning in the Mediterranean area enhancing its peculiarities as a key to implement low carbon strategies. The mutual assistance among municipalities and metropolitan areas will be key for the successful permeability of the capitalization products designed, paving the path for making urban transports truly sustainable.

La forte densité des zones urbaines exerce de fortes pressions sur les systèmes de transport en raison du simple volume de circulation des biens et des personnes qui traversent une ville, en particulier en période de demande saisonnière. Toutefois, outre la planification, la durabilité de la mobilité urbaine passe aussi par la coopération. La mobilité est une question qui transcende les frontières formelles des villes; non seulement la pollution de l'air et d'autres impacts environnementaux n'ont aucun respect pour les divisions administratives, mais le transport efficace exige également une coopération entre tous les niveaux de gouvernement. Le présent projet correspond à une deuxième génération de la stratégie de capitalisation d'Interreg-Med, qui prévoit de promouvoir le transfert des politiques développées par la Communauté des Transports Urbains, par l'intégration et la liaison stratégique d'une série d'activités au niveau transnational. Le partenariat Transports Urbains est profondément spécialisé dans les transports urbains et la mise en réseau en Méditerranée. Le projet contribuera à une identité unique en matière de planification de la mobilité dans la région méditerranéenne en renforçant ses particularités en tant que clé de la mise en œuvre de stratégies à faible émission de carbone. L'assistance mutuelle entre les municipalités et les zones métropolitaines sera la clé du succès de la perméabilité des produits de capitalisation conçus.

Achievements (EN):

The following are the main achievements of this RP:- The project addenda was smoothly prepared,discussion and approved by all partners (budget revision & new “bridging activities”.Tight deadlines were dully respected. -The partnership consolidated an internal effective coordination & distribution of workload. Taskforces created in previous RP are consolidated (policy work, mentoring coordination) and ad hoc new ones are created responding to needs (final event taskforce, JS-led mapping exercise).-Communication-wise, this RP has focused on valorising the UT mentoring program:3 infographics present peers, main challenges & topics; a series of videos featuring the mentoring experts and activities organised was prepared and will be published the next RP. -Under WP5 and bridging with the previous work done under WP4, a dedicated taskforce prepared and delivered the 3 mappings required by the JS with the project outcomes, transferring methodologies & capitalisation. -WP5 is the core of the project implementation. The mentoring program: 6 out of 8 adaptation reports are ready (see deliverable 5. 3. 2. for main lessons learnt & recommendations on active mobility, mobility monitoring and the use of data, and participatory approaches to mobility planning). Over 20 bilateral and working meetings have been organised, mostly online, with over 125 people involved in total. The next RP will feature, visibilise and capitalise on these results. -Regarding the policy work, the UT has published and translated to French 1 policy brief on active mobility, and has disseminated it at any public event it has been part of. The second brief is under preparation. -The project has continued to be active at European fora with 4 events this RP. -Joint initiatives internal and external to the partnership have been organised during this RP to mainstream and capitalise its outcomes: 1 event entitled “Southern dialogues on sustainable mobility” led by MedCities (Montepelier, 12.21) counted on the participation of UNIMED, while 1 regional event in Greece organised by CIVINET had MedCities on board. The project will be present at the MEDAcademy with 2 courses.- The partnership has intensively worked the last months to set an intense agenda of local, regional and European events to be organised the next RP, and has started preparing the project final event of next October 2022.
