Description (EN):

Complexes out of city centres depend most on a local/ individual old fossil fuel heating plants with low capacity. Such locations often rely on old transformer stations for connection to the power grid, usually close to its capacity limit. The cities of Šabac (GŠ) and Nova Gradiška (NG) will each build an alternative energy power plant with 0,5MW capacity; resp. Biomass and Solar, together serving 16 public buildings. The project will deliver 1MW new energy capacity based on renewable energy sources. GŠ and NG will have demonstrative energy efficiency promotion through public installations based on solar and piezo generated energy. NG will do a biomass mapping to evaluate a next step in biomass use. GŠ will establish the "Academy for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Sources" integrated in a professional training centre on location. Different alternative energy sources will be demonstrated in a Smart “room”. It will run an e-car with visible branding promoting alternative transport energy . NG will implement a Smart Consumption Control System. LAGZS (county and 9 municipalities), will conduct a detailed analysis of the available biomass market from forestry, agriculture and industry in their area in order to determine the energy potential and identify future projects. Main target groups are partner cities, their relevant service providers/public institutions and citizens using the new energy capacities and having less air pollution. SMEs are targeted in awareness of alternative energies. In this CB cooperation GŠ and NG will formulate joint conclusions and local energy policy will be adapted (GŠ)/ drafted (NG) based on knowledge transferred and exchanged lessons learned. The aim of the project partners is to go together in long term cooperation on energy efficiency and smart city development.

Achievements (EN):

The project has resulted in an increase of infrastructure capacity for energy production from renewable energy sources in the cross-border area, which combined have the maximum capacity for energy production of 1.07 MW. The most important demonstration model units were for education on energy efficiency, e-vehicle, “smart bench”, equipment for Small district renewable energy plant, construction of another boiler room and pipelines for up to 6 social facilities. Solar tree installed in Nova Gradiška: In order to raise the awareness of the population of Nova Gradiška and the surrounding municipalities about the project and use of renewable energy sources, with beginning of 2021 a solar tree was placed on King Tomislav Square in the center of the town. With its attractive appearance and functions, the solar tree represents innovative, ecological and well-designed urban equipment, which will attract the attention of passers-by who will be able to charge their electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops, electric bicycles and electric scooters. The steel construction is stylishly shaped with a branched “canopy” of 18 “leaves” and a bench for 12 people. The solar tree decoratively illuminates the surrounding area with integrated lighting at night. Free wi-fi network is available in the vicinity of the solar tree, through which interested passers-by can be additionally informed about the energy of solar radiation as a renewable source of sustainable and efficient energy. BIOSOL project presents first SMART-benches and electric car in Šabac and Smart Consumption Control System in Nova Gradiška: Within project BIOSOL the first 2 Strawberry Smart solar powered benches were installed at the main square in Šabac, while two benches with a wider functionality were positioned in the Sava Park and Training centre. Besides different charging options for a wide array of mobile devices, the benches offer USB and WiFi connectivity and air-quality-sensors. The benches became an attraction from the very first day of their positioning. Eye-catcher for the adult generation is the BIOSOL electric car. This latest generation full electric vehicle with fast charging point at Letnjikovac is a promotor for renewable energy use in the awareness raising activities of BIOSOL. Project partner City of Nova Gradiška developed „Energy strategy for the City of Nova Gradiška“ which is in line with the Europe 2030 strategy. The ultimate goal of the energy strategy is to achieve a positive impact on the environment through decisions to reduce CO2 emissions and other types of pollution. Smart Consumption Control System is developed and installed on 10 locations (public buildings), reading energy consumption in real-time, allowing remote access and management to energy consumers reduces consumption by 5 to 10%. After the training of employees, the City of Nova Gradiška will be able to monitor the electricity consumption in its buildings on a daily basis via the website and react in a timely manner in case of excessive consumption, failure, or other unexpected situations.

Expected Results (EN): Energy consumption by public buidings in the programme area.

Expected Outputs (EN):

R1. 0,5 MW thermal energy capacity provided by the biomass combustion unit to the city training centre , 3 kindergarten buildings, a community health centre and public kitchen complex in the City Šabac is reducing fossil fuel consumption and energy costs on location. R2. 0,5 MW electric energy capacity provided by a field mounted Photo Voltaic battery park to 10 public buildings (social, cultural, educational and civil service providers) in Nova Gradiska is reducing fossil fuel consumption and energy costs on locations. R3. Parners' institutions and employees capacities for efficient energy management as well as knowledge and expertise on sustainable renewable energy sources improved. R4. Children and youngsters as well as general public in the project area are aware of renewable, sustainable and efficient energy opportunities.
