Gourmet tourism is an experiential trip to a gastronomic region, for recreational or entertainment purposes, which includes visits to producers of food, gastronomic festivals, farmers’ markets, cooking shows and demonstrations, tastings of quality food products or any tourism activity related to food. In recent years, it has grown considerably and has become one of the most dynamic and creative segments of tourism. Over a third of tourist spending is devoted to food. Furthermore, gourmet tourists have higher-than-average expenditure, they are demanding and appreciative, and they eschew uniformity. Therefore, gastronomy cannot become a bland and anonymous product; it must have personality, because otherwise it will become vulnerable, de-localized and subject to adulteration. Cross-border destinations are not fully aware of the importance of gastronomy in order to diversify tourism and stimulate local, regional and national economic development. Therefore, the overall project objective is to create a common brand- Eat Pannonia (EP), for the promotion of new developed tourism products. The cuisine of the cross-border destinations will be an aspect of utmost importance in the quality of the holiday experience. The project will gather authentic food and recipies, perserve them and disseminate them through two gourmet centres (in Vrdnik and Vinkovci) and further promote them with ICT tool. The experience of gastronomic tourism will the main reason or motivation to travel for visitors to cross-border tourism destination or at least one significat reason. Eat Pannonia will include products that discourse ethical and sustainable values based on the territory, the landscape, local culture, local products and authenticity. Tourism, particularly food tourism, will allow rural communities to generate income and employment opportunities locally, providing jobs for vineyard tour guides or local chefs, while fuelling other sectors of the local economy such as agriculture.

Expected Results (EN): Number of overnights in the programme area.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The main result of the project will be increased number of tourist arrivals and overnights and increased number of visitors. Achievement of the project outputs will lead to the increase of the attractiveness of the CB region. Proposed actions will improve the tourism infrastructure, diversify the offer, better connect the touristic demand and supply. Tourism infrastructure will be build and improved on two locations, in Vrdnik and Vinkovci. Planned procurement will enable educational programmes, designed in order to increase the product and service providers capacities. This will enable them to better understand the needs, reach the defined standards and offer quality and value-for-money tourism services. Various events will be organised in newly built Gourmet Centers, such as competition, Gourmet Fair, exhibitions and product degustation. All together, it will improve the attractiveness of the area covered by the project and lead to the main result, the increased number of visitors. Source of verification are the official reports on the number of tourist arrivals and overnights. Tourism boards or organisations at the specific area are responsible for data collection and publication. In this case, those are Tourism organisation of the Irig Municipality and Tourism Board Vinkovci. Institution of higher, regional, level in Serbia that is in charge for tracking of the numbers in tourism is Tourism organisation of Vojvodina. In Croatia, Tourism Board of the Vukovar-Srijem Country is responsible. The official data is published and easily accessible by the bureaus of statistics. The baseline is calculated by this data and the target value is based on extrapolation of these data using forecasting methods. The calculation is based on creation of a statistical model. It would integrate the growth trend and estimation of future data based on the past values.
