Description (EN):

The Inv2Mac project is based on the valorisation of biomass generated by invasive plant species in Macaronesia, such as Arundo donax, Pennisetum, Hedychium gardnerianum or Acacia spp, among others, which in some cases constitute a serious environmental problem. The proposal aims to produce composite materials (biodegradable/recyclable plastic matrix and fibers from this biomass), although it also faces the characterisation and use of them for use as a complement of animal feed or compost. At the end of the project, a series of demonstrators will be produced, so that real tests will be available to demonstrate the performance and final appearance of plastic parts made from composite materials using the natural fibres obtained. These demonstrators will also be used as a tool for dissemination of the project and its results, as well as to highlight the importance of control in its introduction in Macaronesia.

El proyecto Inv2Mac se basa en la valorización de la biomasa generada por especies vegetales invasoras en la Macaronesia, como la Arundo donax, Pennisetum, Hedychium gardnerianum o Acacia spp, entre otros, que constituyen en algunos casos un problema medioambiental serio. La propuesta pretende producir materiales compuestos (matriz plástica biodegradable/reciclable y fibras provenientes de esta biomasa), aunque también afronta la caracterización y utilización de las mismas para su empleo como complemento de alimentación animal o compost. Al final del proyecto se producirá una serie de demostradores, de manera que se dispondrán de pruebas reales que demostrarán el comportamiento y el aspecto final de las piezas plásticas fabricadas con materiales compuestos utilizando las fibras naturales obtenidas. Estos demostradores se emplearán también como herramienta de diseminación del proyecto y sus resultados, así como para resaltar la importancia del control en su introducción en la Macaronesia.
