EnviTox hankkeen tavoitteena on kehittää toteutettavissa olevia suosituksia ja välineitä, joilla varmistetaan hyvälaatuinen ympäristö Krasny Borin myrkyllisen jätteen kaatopaikalle ja hyvä yleistietoisuus ympäristön tilasta. Hankkeen tavoitteena on myös varmistaa Pietarin kaupungin ja Itämeren parempaa vesihuoltoa.

EnviTox project aims at developing feasible recommendations and tools to ensure good quality environment in the area around the Krasny Bor toxic waste landfill and increasing general knowledge of the state of environment. It also aims at securing better water management of Saint Petersburg City and the Baltic Sea.

Целью проекта EnviTox является разработка практических рекомендаций и инструментов для повышения безопасности среды обитания в окрестностях полигона для захоронения токсичных промышленных отходов «Красный Бор». Также проект направлен на повышение эффективности управления водными ресурсами Санкт-Петербурга и Балтийского моря.

Achievements (FI):

Projektissa tehtiin tutkimuksia Krasni Borin kaatopaikan ympäristössä ympäristön yleistilan määrittämiseksi. Projekti tuotti riskienarviointimenetelmiä, joiden avulla arvioitiin vaarallisen jätteen mahdollisia riskejä ihmisille ja ympäristölle Krasni Borin kaatopaikan läheisyydessä sekä mahdollisia uhkia Pietarin kaupungin vedenkäytölle. Hankkeessa muodostettiin suosituksia riskien hallitsemiseksi ja ehkäisemiseksi: suosituksia jatkotutkimuksista, ympäristön tarkkailusta, hätätilanteisiin valmistautumisesta, toimia hylättyjä kaatopaikkoja koskien sekä julkiseksi tiedottamiseksi ja tietoisuuden lisäämiseksi. Hankkeen tulokset tukevat päätöksen tekijöitä, ympäristöviranomaisia ja maankäytön suunnittelijoita jotka ovat vastuussa Krasni Borin kaatopaikan ja ympäröivien maa-alueiden ympäristön tilasta. Achievements (EN):

The project carried out studies in the surroundings of the Krasny Bor landfill in Russia to gain an overview of its current environmental status. Project introduced risk assessment methods that were applied to estimate the potential risks posed by the hazardous waste landfill to people and the environment near the Krasny Bor area, as well as the potential threat to the water intake of St. Petersburg. The provided recommendations for feasible risk management and mitigation measures, include suggestions for additional studies, environmental monitoring, preparedness plans for emergency situations, measurements for the abandoned landfill areas, and for public communication and awareness raising. The project results support the decision makers, environmental authorities and land use planners responsible for the environmental management of the Krasny Bor surroundings.
