Projektets övergripande mål är att öka konkurrenskraften för naturprodukt(NWFP) företag genom att undersöka och förbättra lämpliga metoder för kvalitetssäkring och genom att öka energieffektivitet vid torkning av NWFP material dvs örter, blad, bär, bark osv. På grund av att befolkningen åldras och medvetheten om hälsa och miljö ökar bland konsumenterna håller non-wood forest products (NWFP) eller naturprodukt business på att bli en global megatrend. Enligt tidskriften Natural Products Scandinavia uppgick nordisk hälso-och välfärdbusinessen till 12,1 miljard ¤ år 2016 och uppskattas att öka till 36 miljard ¤ till och med år 2017. Värdet av nordisk NWFP kunde vara avsevärt större om biomassan förädlades till mera värdefulla produkter. Torkning är den vanligaste metoden för att bevara eller behandla färska NWFP produkter. Denna process är mycket energiintensiv och kan uppgå till 70% av energikostnaderna i produktionskejdan. Val av mest lämpad teknologi och energikälla är väsentlig för att göra businessen ekonomiskt lönsam. En av flaskhalsarna är de höga energikostnaderna. En möjlig lösning på problemet kunde vara att öka användningen av spillvärme i torkningsprocessen för att öka resurseffektiviteten och hållbar utveckling samt viktigast av allt öka kostnadseffektiviteten inom NWFP businessen. EU vill öka resurseffektivitet i syfte att få Europas ekonomi i balans. Genom att utnyttja spillvärme från olika källör såsom lantbruk, kraftverk elle industri kan den gröna ekonomin intensifieras. Målet med projektet är att studera olika tillgängliga spillenergikällor för torkning och för att ge rekommendationer för hur man kan minimera kostnaderna i torkningsprocessen. Efterfrågan på nordiska produkter av hög kvalitet ökar främst på grund av att nordiska NWFP uppskattas som pålitliga och autentiska. Oftast är de organiska och har plockats vilda. Dock om torkningen inte utförts ordentligt kan kvaliteten av det torkade materialet försämras på grund av minskad färg, arom, mängd och bioaktivitet av värdefulla komponenter. Dessutom borde den högskattade kunna verifieras att erhålla ett bättre pris av premiumprodukter. Målet är att undersöka och förbättra torkningsprocessen och kvalitetsförsäkringsmetoderna av de valda materialen och att förrbättra de valda torkningsapparaterna/sytemen. Projektets huvudsakliga aktiviteter är: att karakterisera NWFP material, utvärdera potentiella spillenergikällör, att utveckla och jämföra torkningsprocesser, att värdera potentiella partnerskapmodeller mellan energiprodusenter och torkningsföretag. Följande resultat kommer att uppnås: inventering av potentiella spillenergikällor, teknologiska modeller, energibalanskalkyler samt potentiella partnerskapmodeller för uttnyttjande av spillenergikällor, en utvärdering av olika torkningsmetoder och olika material, ett informationspaket om förbättrade torkningsprocesser och egenskaper, ett informationspaket om karakterisering av växter före och efter torkning, ett informationspaket om lämpliga kvalitetskontroll metoder.

Description (EN):

The overall objective of the project is to increase the competitiveness of natural product (NWFP) companies by examining and improving appropriate quality assurance methods and by increasing energy efficiency in drying NWFP materials, i.e. herbs, leaves, berries, bark, etc. Due to the ageing of the population and the awareness of health and the environment among consumers, non-wood forest products (NWFP) or natural product business are becoming a global megatrend. According to the journal Natural Products Scandinavia, the Nordic health and welfare business amounted to 12.1 billion ¤ in 2016 and is estimated to increase to 36 billion ¤ by 2017. The value of Nordic NWFP could be significantly greater if the biomass was refined into more valuable products. Drying is the most common method of preserving or treating fresh NWFP products. This process is highly energy intensive and can amount to 70 % of the energy costs in the production chain. Choice of the most suitable technology and energy source is essential to make the business economically viable. One of the bottlenecks is the high energy costs. One possible solution to the problem could be to increase the use of waste heat in the drying process to increase resource efficiency and sustainable development and, most importantly, to increase the cost efficiency of the NWFP business. The EU wants to increase resource efficiency in order to balance Europe’s economy. By utilising waste heat from various Sources such as agriculture, power plants or industry, the green economy can be intensified. The goal of the project is to study various available waste energy sources for drying and to provide recommendations on how to minimise the costs in the drying process. The demand for high-quality Nordic products is increasing mainly because Nordic NWFP is valued as reliable and authentic. They are usually organic and have been picked wild. However, if the drying process has not been carried out properly, the quality of the dried material may deteriorate due to reduced colour, aroma, quantity and bioactivity of valuable components. In addition, the high-rated should be able to be verified to obtain a better price of premium products. The aim is to investigate and improve the drying process and quality assurance methods of the selected materials and to improve the selected drying appliances/set-themes. The main activities of the project are: to characterise NWFP materials, evaluate potential waste energy source, to develop and compare drying processes, to evaluate potential partnership models between energy producers and drying companies. The following results will be achieved: inventory of potential waste energy sources, technological models, energy balance calculations and potential partnership models for the use of waste energy sources, an evaluation of different drying methods and materials, an information package on improved drying processes and properties, an information package on plant characterisation before and after drying, an information package on appropriate quality control methods.

Mål: Projektets mål var att utveckla/förbättra naturproduktföretagens konkurrenskraft och etablering på den internationella marknaden genom att: - främja utvecklingen av energieffektiva torkningsmetoder så att produkternas kvalitet bibehålls, - utveckla lämpliga kvalitetsverifieringsmetoder som företagen kan använda för att påvisa halten av vitalämnen i bland annat torkad råvara. Resultat: Följande aktiviteter genomfördes i projektet: -en toppmodern undersökning av befintlig torkningsteknik. -en utvärdering av potentiella energikällor från spill och potentiella företag som kan utnyttja avfallsenergi för torkning. -utveckling av en mobil tork och en demotorkare med CFD -modellering. -förbättring av befintliga torkar. -utveckling av instruktioner för att bygga en ekonomisk plattbäddstork och en modul-tork för att utnyttja avfallsenergi. -optimering av torkningstemperaturer för rosenrot, nässlor och björkblad. -kvalitetsmetoder för rosenrot, nässlor och björkblad. -affärsmodellutveckling för entreprenörskap inom torkning. -planering av uppstart av organisation för torkning i Sverige. Resultaten kan hjälpa små och medelstora företag att optimera torkprocesser med hjälp av CFD -modellering, välja en torkningsteknik och hitta avfallskällor för torkning. Vikten av att visa kvalitetsbevis för förstklassiga råvaror och produkter har lyfts fram i projektet samt hur man visar kvalitetsbevis. Achievements (EN):

Objective: The aim of the project was to develop/improve the competitiveness of natural product companies and their establishment on the international market by: — Promote the development of energy-efficient drying methods in order to maintain the quality of the products; — Develop appropriate quality verification methods that companies can use to demonstrate the content of vital substances in, inter alia, dried raw materials. Results: The following activities were carried out in the project: —a state-of-the-art investigation of existing drying technology. —an evaluation of potential sources of energy from waste and potential companies that can use waste energy for drying. —development of a mobile dryer and a demo wiper with CFD modelling. —improvement of existing dryers. —development of instructions for building an economical flatbed dryer and a modular dryer to utilise waste energy. —optimisation of drying temperatures for rose root, nettle and birch leaves. —quality methods for rose root, nettle and birch leaves. business model development for entrepreneurship in drying. —planning of start-up of drying organisation in Sweden. The results can help SMEs optimise drying processes using CFD modelling, choosing a drying technique and finding waste sources for drying. The importance of showing quality certificates for first-class raw materials and products has been highlighted in the project and how to show quality certificates.
