To prevent social exclusion & break the cycle of disadvantage, reaching vulnerable people at risk of falling through the cracks in systems. To empower them to become fully participating members of their economic & social communities. To bring about system change to ensure that no-one is left behind, changing the mind-sets of those responsible for providing services. To provide evidence to support the wider roll-out of this successful & cost-effective approach.

Achievements (EN):

All societies have their vulnerable people, some of whom risk falling through the cracks between health, welfare and social services. Many people, who do not fit pre-established labels within the system, are passed from one service to another without getting the support they need. Others are unable to access support despite meeting the criteria as they find it difficult to navigate health, social care and welfare structures. These are the kinds of people the ENSURE project was supporting via a model to reduce and prevent vulnerability and the gap between people and public services and newly developed training programmes. The partnership is proud to have exceeded their target group expectations in all three outputs and to have produced a positive evaluation report that showed the great work that had been done for vulnerable people, peer supporters and professionals. It was also a key learning point for future projects in the field of vulnerability to have adapted the project's evaluation to a more quantitative approach, in order to better engage with all of the target groups concerned. The success of ENSURE has led to proposals for future collaboration within Interreg NWE, Erasmus and other national and regional funding streams.

Delivered Outputs (EN):

The project main outputs are: ● A new cost-effective, evaluated model to reduce & prevent vulnerability & the gap between people & state services, building on PP6’s highly successful ‘Mums for Mums’ network of peer-to-peer community volunteers & linking 3 groups into a successful solution: professionals, peer supporters & vulnerable people. ● 2 training programmes for: 1) health, social care & welfare professionals/volunteers/NGOs, based around mentalisation (‘walk a kilometre in my shoes’) led by front-line workers; 2) peer-to-peer community volunteers acting as intermediaries between the vulnerable & state services; plus an evaluation of these programmes. These outputs benefited vulnerable people, such as: migrants, culturally, socially, and economically vulnerable individual adults and families. These outputs would allow trained professionals to work more effectively & help trained volunteers gain opportunities for personal and professional growth.
