Description (EN): MOBI-MIX aims to facilitate more effectively the implementation and adoption of green, shared vehicle, MaaS and Mobi-hubs of private mobility providers in the urban environments of 5 cities/regions to avoid/replace 2.6 M fossil-fueled car-kilometres during project lifetime.

Achievements (EN):

The MOBI-MIX project started just 2 weeks before COVID-19 started to significantly constrain the movements of people in Europe. COVID-19 quickly led to an increased urgency from cities and citizens for safe travel modes (social distancing) which may serve as a catalyst for new sustainable mobility in many polluted urban areas. However, it does require an effective public-private collaboration between cities and mobility providers to minimise private motor vehicle use, restore confidence in the use of public transport and promote active transport, thereby making cities more sustainable, equitable, liveable and healthy. This automatically increased the importance and urgency of the MOBI-MIX project as well to support the implementation of green Smart Mobility solutions in urban areas. On the topic of public-private collaboration, the MOBI-MIX partnership exchanged their own experiences and knowledge with each other and furthermore acquired knowledge from experts from the US and Europe. MOBI-MIX organised 2 round tables with the experts and MOBI-MIX partners to discuss and exchange best practices and examples of successful and unsuccessful public-private partnerships. The outcomes of the discussions are collected in an implementation guide which received lots of visibility (>300 users) and positive feedback from other cities. https://sharedmobilityguide.futuremobility.expert/mobility-guide/cover. Next step is to organise workshops with other cities on how the implementation guide can be used for their local projects. The gained knowledge supports the public authorities within MOBI-MIX with the implementation of their local Smart Mobility projects. Rotterdam implements car-sharing systems, Antwerp introduces a Mobility-as-a-Service scheme, Mechelen aims to put cargo bikes on the road, Valenciennes Metropole region develops Mobility hubs and Norfolk County Council focuses on improving the availability and usage of several micro-mobility solutions such as shared e-scooters and shared (e-)bikes. Due to the increased urgency from COVID-19, the demonstrators are now planned to go live in the 1st half of 2021 instead of the 2nd half of 2021. The project partners support each other in dedicated virtual meetings where they exchange ideas and insights to help shape the demonstrator plans of each other. Also insights and data on how COVID impacts the urban areas of their local environments are shared with each other to identify both similarities and differences.

Expected Results (EN): During the project lifetime, MOBI-MIX aims to achieve a total reduction of 365.000kg CO2 emissions in the urban, personal transport sector of 5 cities/regions in the 2 seas region: Rotterdam, Antwerp, Mechelen, Norfolk County and Valenciennes.

Expected Outputs (EN):

To benefit the public and private sector within and outside the project consortium, MOBI-MIX will produce: WP1: 5 reports for the 5 public authorities showing the potential impact of different Shared Mobility- and MaaS solutions for their different geographical areas and target groups. WP2: 1 handbook of the most promising PPP models for implementing Shared Mobility and MaaS. WP3: 5 demonstrators (lasting 14 months) where private mobility providers more effectively implement green, shared vehicles, MaaS, and MOBI-hubs. WP4: 5 improved urban mobility plans (based on SUMP guidelines) . WP4: A decision-making framework for urban mobility planners of cities to integrate public-private collaboration models in their urban mobility planning strategies to ensure future uptake of more green, shared urban mobility- and MaaS solutions. WP6: 1 insight paper with experts and key policymakers reflecting on project outcomes, lessons learned and best practices.
