Description (EN):

The project is aimed at improving access to two of the most important ancient monuments in the Prefectures of Evros and Rodopi. Both historical monuments which are situated in present time in municipalities of Ardino and Didimotika are dating from I-II century AD. Through the implementation of this project the tourists and visitors of the two municipalities Ardino and Didymoteicho will have the opportunity to get to know the culture and the heritage of the Thracians, their customs and crafts. The approaches to two important historical monuments – the Devils bridge and the fortress of Didymoteicho will be rehabilitated and upgraded. The construction activities, festivals and other activities envisaged in the project will significantly improve the access of visitors and tourists to the two sites and also will present to people from the two border communities to learn that they are not only related by wars and battles, but have a common livelihood.

Expected Results (EN):

1.Rehabilitation of 1,981 km. road to the Devil’s bridge; 2. Construction of cobblestone (80 m2) ; 3.Construction of an arbour on the parking next to the Devil’s bridge; 4. Construction of an arbour and a fountain; 5.Construction of trails and repair of road to the Didymoteicho fortress; 6. Landscaping, alleys, curbs; 7. Organization of two festivals; 8. Development, translation and printing of an album of 80 pages in 2000 copies published on the web sites of the two municipalities and the Ephorate of Antiquities; 9. Conduction of language courses and professional training.
