Description (EN):

Energy efficiency is one of the most cost effective ways to enhance security of energy supply and to reduce energy demand and emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants. Since efficiency has been considered as Europe's biggest energy resource, the European Union has set a target for 2020 of saving 20% of its primary energy consumption compared to projections, and this objective has been identified as a key step towards achieving long-term energy and climate goals. Buildings consume more than 40 % of Europe's energy use and are responsible for 36% of EU CO2 emissions.

Expected Results (EN):

The implementation of this project will result in reduced energy consumption in the upgraded buildings and consequently in reduced expenses on their maintenance, reduced emissions of air pollutants and reduced adverse environmental impact. The results of project implementation will include: * reduced of avoided CO2 emissions * clean energy which will be produced using renewable energy sources. * the envelopes of 4 buildings will be thermally upgraded, heat sources will be replaced and RES will be installed. * significant improvement in the energy efficiency of selected public buildings * educate and motivate decision makers to go beyond minimum energy performance requirement for reconstruction of public buildings and contribute to the overall goal of regional energy independence * awareness raising of citizens, students and local entrepreuners regarding energy-saving issues. * contribution to the objectives of the EU 2020 strategy * a common cross-border "energy saving" approach in public buildings that involves the collection of data, the design and monitoring of the energy saving project * increasing the know-how on "total energy planning" in publicl buildings and corresponding strengthening of the administrative capacity of the Partners regarding the use and management of RES * a roadmap on combining energy saving and social policies as well as the creation of energy communities * useful promotional material and applications As far as schools are concerned energy efficient upgrades leads to: Reduced Energy Costs, Reduced Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions, Improved Learning Environment, Enhanced Educational Opportunities, Reduced Waste and Increased Recycling.

Expected Outputs (EN):

SMENSWICT is built on three axis. The first is improve energy efficiency performance in targeted public sector buildings (schools and hospitals) in order to provide demonstrated basis for development of a sustainable energy efficiency improvement program in the public sector of the cross border area, the second is raise public's awaraness on issues such as energy saving, climate change, energy democracy and energy poverty and the third is policy initiatives on energy that can implemented at local level. The fisrt axis includes Energy Saving Infrastructures - ICT & BMS Applications with main outputs: Technical implementation studies, New heating systems, LED lighting technology light sources which will replace the conventional ones, New External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS), Central Building Control System in each of the four buildings. The second's axis main outputs are: Nine (9) Educational Event for schoolchidren - pupils, a Game Application for Personal Energy Saving (in the form of a game the app will demonstrate minimum cost techniques on how you can save energy in your every day life), Six (6) Training Events for Businesses on energy saving, two (2) study visits for exchanging know-how, experiences and best practices. The thirds axis main outputs are: A study on policies combining Energy and Cost Saving with Social Policy Initiatives. The study will propose a strategic and an action plan that can be implemented at local level. A study on how to embrace Energy Democracy at local level. Besides the general approach of the study a strategic plan will also be proposed (along with a short term action plan on building energy communities. All the three axis will be supported through Production of Communication material and tools, Project Website, Project's Communication Plan, Publicity events and Conferences (4) and Local awareness events (4).
