Description (EN):

SOLIS constitutes a common effort between the Municipalities of Preveza and Finiq and the University of Ioannina - Special Account for Research Funds – Dept. of Early Childhood Education, with the support of the Dept. of Computer Sciences ΚΑΙamp; Engineering. The project aspires to showcase the importance of local actions towards RES utilization, enhancement of Energy Efficiency, Technology Transfer capacity assessment, and promotion of Energy Responsible Lifestyles. The CB area faces potentially severe impacts due to climate change on the natural and manmade environment, while on the other hand has the opportunity of an important RES capacity. While these issues are to some extent taken into account on a national level, local and regional interventions are in many cases overlooked. Nevertheless, integrated energy planning in the later levels can be an important tool to address the above mentioned challenges and valorize the opportunities. SOLIS, being output oriented, shall make the case for such planning by pilot RES and energy efficiency investments. Moreover, SOLIS will promote maturity for technology transfer, and actively engage the population in changing lifestyles through a well-designed bundle of energy awareness actions. These pilot investments, studies and awareness actions will showcase the relevance and importance of integrated energy interventions and will accelerate the process of a transition to a low carbon economy. The main project activities include: 1-PV Cells and energy efficiency investments in Louros (Preveza) and Aliko (Finiq) that will work as examples of interventions replicable by other authorities in the CB area, 2-Technology Transfer Studies for Zero Net Emissions and (near) Zero Emissions Buildings to assess the capacity and feasibility of such interventions in the context of the CB area ΚΑΙamp; 3-A bundle of actions to promote Energy Responsible Lifestyles and in particular (a) a localized energy efficiency educational toolkit, (b) training workshops to educators (c) an engaging gamification platform for the general public (d) a print ΚΑΙamp; play board game for ages +9 – 99

Expected Results (EN):

The programme’s result indicator as far as SO 1.4 is concerned is the increased awareness about energy efficiency expressed as change in the Energy Efficiency Awareness Barometer. The Dlvs of WP5 will contribute to the achievement of the target value. Energy efficiency awareness is the main challenge for the successful transition to low energy future as far as consumers and the general public are concerned and its importance has been considered by the project. Consequently, the project will work towards promoting energy efficiency and RES utilization, as well as energy responsible lifestyles. All in all, the success of the project will clearly contribute to the achievement of the Programme’s output and result indicators. The direct results of the project are the: Decrease in energy consumption in public buildings through the investments, Maturing the transfer of technologies for ZNE and nZEB; Deeper understanding, knowledge and awareness by teachers and other educational professionals; Promotion of energy efficiency awareness in schools with the utilization of teachers as communication multipliers; Promotion of energy responsible lifestyles in the general public with the utilization of the efficiency gamification platform and the board game; Decrease of energy consumption by the general public. Moreover, the project will increase the CB cooperation between organizations and authorities with the exchange of operational knowledge, and best practices with respect to energy efficiency and RES. The above-mentioned results are measurable, achievable, realistic, and time planned within the life cycle of the project. Furthermore, the investment of the project to the younger generation is expected to weigh in the long-term results. Moreover, investments take into account energy efficiency consideration to promote not only green growth but also integrated sustainable development.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The project’s outputs are the vehicle to achieve the Specific Objectives (SO) as they are detailed in the section above. The project’s main outputs is the increased utilization of RES in the public sector and therefore the overall reduced energy consumption in public buildings, and the increased population awareness with regards to the energy efficiency, corresponding exactly to the core of the programme’s SO. The project’s outputs are: 1. Two small scale RES and energy efficiency investments as pilot demonstration projects contributing to actual measurable energy savings (SO1, 3). 2. Technology Transfer Studies to assess the transferability of Zero Net Energy (ZNE) or nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) technologies in buildings of the respective municipalities (SO2). 3. Development of a localized educational toolkit on RES and energy efficiency tailored to the specific characteristics, challenges and opportunities of the CB area (SO4). 4. Teachers and other education professionals trainings on RES and energy efficiency that will focus on the utilization of the specialized educational toolkit (S04, 5). 5. A RES and Energy Efficiency awareness platform that will utilize gamification to engage users in to real life energy conservation, including public leader boards in which users can compete against friends, challenges and level system. The platform will be linked with the website to provide real time data about the decrease of energy consumption from the users (SO4, 5). 6. A board game for energy efficiency for +9-99 (SO4, 5). 7. A website that will give real time data on Electricity Production from the small scale RES investments (SO4, 5). 8. A campaign to recruit users in the platform in Social and Conventional Media (SO4,5). 9. A series of promotional actions: multilingual information material (brochures, information kits and leaflets); a closing conference (SO3,4,5).
