Description (EN):

Common challenge: A common challenge in the area is the lack of incorporating sustainable energy and smart ICT technologies in public buildings and open spaces. It is also important to create joint public awareness initiatives that are addressed to students. The planned small-scale investments in Ioannina,Himara and Dropulli educational and cultural institutions should effectively familiarize citizens with the advantages of EE and RES.Objective: The G.A.M.E.S. project will focus on the pilot small-scale EE and RES investments in public buildings with large open spaces that are highly visited, especially by students. The buildings are located in emblematic central spots ensuring high visibility. The open public spaces around the 3 educational and cultural institutions will serve as meeting, gaming and cooperation points for students aiming to enhance public awareness. The student network will promote sustainable energy and friendship through the cooperation of the two countries. Outputs: (a) 3 pilot prototype studies for the integration of EE/RES technologies in public building complexes and their surrounding space in Ioannina, Himara and Dropulli. (b) Implementation of the aforementioned small-scale investments. (c) Establishment of a students network operation through joint public awareness initiatives on sustainable technologies. (d) Capitalization of the network initiatives in the Eligible Area. Beneficiaries: (a) municipalities, regions and other local decision makers

Expected Results (EN):

The expected direct results include: 1. Raising the sustainable awareness of the students of the common area that will come in contact with the small-scale investments and activities in buildings and open spaces. The students that will be aware of the small scale-investments and visit the experiential lab and the sporting facilities are estimate to be more than 3.000 every year. 2. Strengthening the collaboration between Greece and Albania through the knowledge transfer, common activities and established events. 3. Creating new jobs for the designing, modelling and construction of the sustainable energy interventions. 4. Increasing tourist activity due to the planned new attractions, such as the student events and new recreational areas. 5. Decrease of annual primary energy consumption at three public buildings through the implementation of small-scale investments utilizing RES and Energy-Efficiency technologies. The current annual energy consumption in the three chosen buildings is 582.800 kWh. The energy consumption after the interventions will drop to 435.800 kWh/year. The resulting annual energy saving is 147.000 kWh. 6. The events among students that are foreseen to be organized by G.A.M.E.S project and the other dissemination actions for the open public like workshops, Media press conference and launching of informative website is expected to increase the ‘Energy Efficiency Awareness indicator from the baseline of 5,95 to at least 6,5, which is the target value. Additionally, the proposed project will contribute to: 1. The improvement of the urban environment through the energy saving that will result in cleaner air, thermal comfort and contribute to eliminating energy poverty. 2. The reshaping of the educational and cultural environment and establishing school cooperation networks. 3. The communication between the student communities from both sides of the border.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The expected outputs of the project are: (a) Three pilot / analytical prototype studies for the integration of RES/EE technologies in public building complexes and their surrounding open space in Ioannina, Himara and Dropulli. (b) Implementation of the aforementioned small-scale investments in three emblematic and high-visibility building complexes. (c) (i) Communication Plan,(ii) Information material (brochures, newsletters etc.) in hard copy and/or electronic form for the dissemination of project results, (iii) Project Video for the presentation of the interventions, (iv) 1 Media Press Conference for the presentation of the results of the partner activities to the public, (v) Four workshops (2 in Ioannina, 1 in Himara, 1 in Dropulli),(vi) Assessment of Communications & Dissemination Initiatives. (d) a website that will include all the results from the project outputs. (e) Joint public awareness initiatives for the promotion of sustainable energy principles in the area through: (i) the establishment of a student network through joint public awareness initiatives on sustainable energy, (ii) innovative web-based platform / applications for activating the participation of the local student community through gaming that presents sustainable energy principles, (iii) a Student Sports and Education Week that will be organized in parallel at the end of each school year in all 3 institutions of Ioannina, Himara and Dropulli and will include: -Games at the athletic facilities of the venues -Song, dance, theater and painting competitions on green energy technologies and smart ICT technologies, -Science-related games, -Parallel actions in the 3 areas with “live (direct) connection”, -Online games using the G.A.M.E.S application, -Guided tour of the small-scale investments and acquaintance with the experiential workshops on sustainable energy and ICT technologies, -Culture nights, (iv) Evaluation of the G.A.M.E.S. Network and Capitalization in the Eligible Area.
