Description (EN):

In this project, the benefits of the zero-energy buildings technologies and of the geothermal exploitation technologies on small communities or cities are evaluated. The public buildings can be the first application field of this procedure. The first step is the analytical energy audit of close-to-each-other public buildings in each country and the estimation of their energy efficiency, before any measure is applied. These audits will indicate the thermal needs of the buildings, before and after the application of energy saving technologies. In this phase, the geothermal potential of each will be evaluated, in order to investigate the possibility to replace the old heating systems with a geothermal-based heating system. At the next step, two studies will be developed: (a) The first will indicate which energy saving measures are more appropriate and efficient for each building and (b) the second one will include the location and capacity of geothermal-based units that can cover the thermal needs of the buildings in each country and the design of their heating system. The application studies and call for tender will be prepared following also green e-procurement procedures and aiming in building pilot but also expandable systems for the whole area, in regard with the geothermal potential exploitation. After the installation of the geothermal-based heating systems, a short period of technical evaluation will follow, using on-site measurements that will also be available on the web, proving the achieved energy saving and sustainability of the system.

Expected Results (EN):

The project results are specific,measurable, achievable, realistic and time-based and summarized as follows: (1) A dissemination package (website, dissemination material, etc) will promote the aim (c) of the specific objective, as described at the Objectives section and falls into the indicative action "Joint public awareness initiatives for energy efficiency and utilization of RES". (2) Energy efficiency measurements, studies and cost-effective interventions for four public buildings and energy upgrade of all of them promote aims (a)-(b) of the specific objective and fall into the indicative actions "small-scale investments in energy efficiency and use of RES in public buildings and public spaces", (3) The studies of geothermal-based heating networks for the three cities will promote aims (a)-(b) of the specific objective and fall into the indicative actions "pilot actions for energy saving in public buildings"and "small-scale investments in energy efficiency and use of RES in public buildings and public spaces". (4) Design and Construction of four pilot, expandable geothermal-based heating networks for the heating of the energy upgraded public buildings in each country (PrespaMunicipal Hall-kindergarten, Nestorio Municipal Hall and Devol cultural center) will contribute to the aims (a)-(b) of the specific objective and fall into the indicative actions "pilot actions for energy saving in public buildings"and "small-scale investments in energy efficiency and use of RES in public buildings and public spaces".

Expected Outputs (EN):

The project's outputs are the following and directly address the objectives and contribute to the achievements of the programm's indicators: (1) Development of energy efficiency certificates and suggested improvement final studies for four public buildings, addressing the first specific objective of section B 1.2, (2) Targeted Energy efficiency improvements with e-procurement procedures for four public buildings, addressing the second specific objective of B 1.2 and contributing to reduced energy consumption in the public sector, (3) Geothermal availability, geothermal unit and heating network studies for Prespes, Nestorio and Devol cities, contributing to the objectives No 3 and 4 of B 1.2, (4) Implement three pilot, geothermal-based, heating networks for public buildings at Prespa (Municipal Hall-kindergarten), Nestorio (Municipal Hall) and Devol (cultural center), contributing to the increase share of energy by RES in the public sector. The two last outputs also pave the way for future investments: the implementation of the Laimos, Nestorio and Devol RES-based heating networks will act as core and lighthouse for the heat supply to private customers also, (5) Dissemination package consisitng of: Creation of dissemination and promotion material (videos, posters, etc), Press publications for awareness raising, workshops for know-how exchange between the technical staff of the partners, Site for the dissemination and promotion of the course and objectives of the project, Two Conferences.
