Nephroblastoma is a common abdominal tumor in children. His diagnosis is based exclusively on imaging. Segmentation is a key computer step with the goal of delineating the contours of the elements (organs, vessels and tumors) appearing on the patient’s scanners. This step makes it possible to create a three-dimensional representation (3D) of the abdomen useful not only for diagnosis but also for the preparation of the surgery. For the time being, although there are a large number of segmentation programmes, the intervention of radiologists is necessary to conduct this process intelligently. Since this procedure is time-consuming, it is almost never performed and surgeons are forced to rely only on unsegmented scanners.SAIAD aims to offer a computer platform capable of providing three-dimensional (3D) representations of the patient’s abdomen to surgeons and radiologists without any human intervention. 3D representations can be in digital format (viewable on computer, tablet or smartphone) and physical (by 3D printing). SAIAD will implement Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts to segment a patient’s scan images. These AI tools with demonstrated performance will build on past experiences, stored in a secure and shared knowledge base between French and Swiss surgeons and radiologists.

Le néphroblastome est une tumeur abdominale fréquente chez l’enfant. Son diagnostic est exclusivement basé sur l’imagerie. La segmentation est une étape informatique clé ayant pour objectif de délimiter les contours des éléments (organes, vaisseaux et tumeurs) apparaissant sur les scanners du patient. Cette étape permet de créer une représentation en trois dimensions (3D) de l’abdomen utile non seulement au diagnostic mais aussi à la préparation de l’intervention chirurgicale. Pour l’heure, bien qu’il existe un grand nombre de programmes de segmentation, l’intervention des radiologues est nécessaire pour conduire intelligemment ce processus. Cette intervention étant chronophage, elle n'est quasiment jamais réalisée et les chirurgiens sont contraints de ne se baser que sur les scanners non segmentés.SAIAD a pour ambition de proposer une plate-forme informatique capable de fournir des représentations en trois dimensions (3D) de l’abdomen du patient aux chirurgiens et radiologues sans aucune intervention humaine. Les représentations 3D pourront être au format numérique (visualisables sur ordinateur, tablette ou Smartphone) et physique (par impression 3D). SAIAD mettra en œuvre des concepts d’Intelligence Artificielle (IA) pour segmenter les images scanner d’un patient. Ces outils d’IA aux performances démontrées s’appuieront sur les expériences passées, stockées dans une base de connaissances sécurisée et mutualisée entre les chirurgiens et radiologues Français et Suisses.
