The link Belfort — Delle — Delémont — Bienne connects Belfort, an important agglomeration of the Franche-Comté region to Delémont, capital of the Republic and Canton of Jura and Bienne via Delle. The establishment of a new TGV station located between the agglomerations of Belfort and Montbéliard and at the intersection of the Belfort — Delle — Delémont — Bienne line, as part of the eastern branch of the LGV Rhin-Rhone, has led to the question of whether this line should be fully reopened to passenger traffic. Indeed, a project of this nature makes it possible to find a new gateway to the French high-speed network, but also to the main cities located on both sides of the border to renew railway relations interrupted almost twenty years ago. On the Swiss side to Boncourt, the line has always been kept in service and modernised. Traffic between Delle and Boncourt resumed in 2006.

Ligne majoritairement à voie unique longue de 98 km, la liaison Belfort - Delle - Delémont - Bienne permet de relier Belfort, importante agglomération de la région Franche-Comté à Delémont, capitale de la République et Canton du Jura et à Bienne via Delle. L’implantation, dans le cadre de la branche Est de la LGV Rhin - Rhône, d’une gare TGV nouvelle située entre les agglomérations de Belfort et Montbéliard et à l’intersection de la ligne Belfort - Delle - Delémont - Bienne a conduit à s’interroger sur l’opportunité d’une réouverture complète de cette ligne au trafic de voyageurs. En effet, un projet de cette nature permet de trouver une porte d’accès nouvelle au réseau à grande vitesse français, mais aussi aux principales villes situées de part et d’autre de la frontière de renouer des relations ferroviaires interrompues il y a près de vingt ans. Sur la partie suisse jusqu’à Boncourt, la ligne a toujours été maintenue en service et modernisées. Les circulations entre Delle et Boncourt ont repris en 2006.
