Story Tagging will increase the market reach of creative industry SME’s by developing a digital platform (accessed via Apps & a website) that will allow creatives to harness (as stories) much of what makes Northern localities distinctive to the people who live & work there: place, identity & community; folklore; cultural heritage; landscape & natural heritage, etc. The platform is the key output of the project & underpins all project objectives. Partners will work with local communities to gather stories that celebrate these local heritage assets, unique to the NPA area. Up to 30 stories will be collected in each partner country & mapped via the platform (enhanced from RGU’s existing story trails platform). Of these, 10-15 will be recorded by local storytellers in audio format & mapped. Project partners will work with creative SMEs to bring stories to life through new products or works. Partners will collaborate with 5 SMEs selected in a transparent process in each country (8 in Scotland). The project will promote the Story tagging platform internationally & digital marketing models will be applied to enhance the market reach of participating creatives. Visitors accessing stories will access information about participating SMEs & their products & works. Links will allow online visitors to purchase, access & participate remotely. The platform will push online traffic to established tourist & visitor information sites. The platform will collect data analytics, allowing creative to better understand their customers/ audience & to help design & refine future products & works. At project end, the platform will be available to communities & creatives across the NPA area & a not-for profit business model will be adopted to sustain the digital platform. The platform will also host a skills hub (with training materials on harnessing stories, digital marketing & data analytics) to enhance the capacity of communities & creative SMEs across the wider region.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The principal result of Story Tagging will be to develop a digital platform that positively enhances the market reach of participating creative industry SMEs, increases awareness of business opportunities beyond local markets among creatives. This will be achieved specifically, through: - Harnessing stories that celebrate local cultural and natural heritage by bringing them to life through new products and works. - Generating publicity and marketing the platform and its associated Apps and website internationally to attract online visitors who will discover the SMEs who are bringing stories to life, enhancing their profile and reach in international markets and raising awareness about - and interest - in their products and works. This will lead to increased sales and participation (online and face-to face), increasing business turnover. - Working with participating SMEs, the project will encourage and support them in harnesses digital marketing models such as RACE (Reach, Act, Convert, and Engage) and data analytics to further increase their market reach and better understand their customers and participants, assisting northern creatives to create new products and works and more effectively market them reach into established and emerging international markets. - Supporting creative industry SMEs and enhancing the know-how and capacity of creative industry SME’s to capitalise on business opportunities; identify and engage with new customers and consumers, and increase remote participation in performances, exhibitions and events; - Complementing - and pushing online traffic towards - existing tourist and visitor information sites to help increase visitor numbers and increase face to face sales and access to works among participating SMEs - Hosting a skills hub that will allow local creatives and communities to enhance their skills in digital marketing and analytics and their ability to harness stories to promote products, works and places. The project will achieve a positive result by encouraging learning and potential collaboration across international boundaries through connecting stories and creative industries across the NPA which share common and yet distinctive stories, heritage and culture. Thus visitors attracted to stories, products and works from one partner region, will discover the natural and cultural heritage of other partner countries through story-telling (and new products and works ) . This will be facilitated by the digital platform and underpinned by the app, skills hub and movie. Story tagging 3 will also have an added positive social and cultural benefit, providing a digital resource that will encourage northern communities to rediscover, re-engage with and celebrate their story telling traditions through the capturing and curation of important local stories. The digital platform will thus provide an important resource, sustaining and enhancing cultural capital beyond the end of the project.
