The NewLINE project addresses efficient management of urban nature parks in LV-RU border area. It pursues their promotion as places of attractions for both residents and tourists, destinations of event tourism and crucial urban ecosystems securing daily communication between human and nature. Hence, the project overall objective is to make the cities located on the Programme territory green, safe, attractive and accessible for all groups of people, as a result of sustainable maintenace and effective marketing of urban green areas. Specifically, the project boosts management capacity of responsible local institutions through an intensive educational and networking program, so that they could efficiently address the issues of urban green management. This work will be implemented through a series of CBC study visits, seminars, the conference and the summer school uniting both project partners and experts from all over the Programme area and from the outside, to enrich local perspectives with external experiences and cases. The project encapsulates an essential investment component aimed at the improvement of 9 ha of green territories in Pskov (RU) and Balvi (LV), that is, a part of Korytovo Forest Park and the Bear's Garden respectively. The construction works include a full cycle of renovation activities: landscaping, creation of pathways, installation of info-boards, visitors' counters, objects of small infrastructure. The project special focus is on the needs of people with disabilities; thus the parks will be inclusive that makes them unique for the target region. The project is tightly linked to the CBC principles. Both parks are historically connected as former mansions of the Goroshanskiye nobles. The common background forms the prerequisites for the emergence of the project, and establishes a wider cultural context in the stream of which the environmental restoration of the parks will be done. This opens a new window of cooperative opportunities, and the parks will be promoted as an integral tourist destination, so that visitors of one park will be informed and invited to visit the other. This will allow to increase the attractiveness of the Programme area as a single whole, to increase the number of visitors and to make the management of urban nature objects more competitive and responsible. In this way, the partners see the project as drawing a NEW LINE of cooperation and tourism naturally connecting RU and LV counterparts. Additionally, the NewLINE deploys special activities aimed at the parks joint marketing. In total, due to the project implementation, the attendance of the parks will increase by at least 1/3; from 36 to 48 thousand visitors per year. Altogether, the NewLINE activities builds a sustainable CBC platform to capitalize knowledge on the topic, improve urban green management practices, increase the number of visitors, and improve the parks that will become the gems of their cities and the entire Programme area.

Expected Results (EN):

The improved parks will allow to increase the No. of visitors by 30% as compared to the baseline (see the explanantion section below), from 36 to 48 thousand visitors. Specifically, in Pskov (Korytovo Forest Park): increase from 16.000 to 20.000 visitors; in Balvi (Bear's Garden): increase from 20.000 to 28.000 visitors.

Expected Outputs (EN):

2 former manor parks in Pskov & Balvi cities by total area of 9 ha will be renovated with special focus on nature sustainability, accessibilty for all people (they will become first such parks in the target cities), & promotion of historical & cultural heritage. In Pskov 5 ha will be restored, in Balvi - 4 ha.
