The Sustainability in Finance (SuFi) project develops a vocational Sustainability in Finance open online module for vocational education and training (VET) by involving students, teachers and stakeholders in new competence and modular development. The project is needed in order to match employment demand, to enhance competetiveness, work opportunities and mobility, and to enhance new required competences among business graduates in the Central Baltic region. Environmental, social and governance are integral parts of sustainable economic development and finance. According to the Finnish National Agency for Education report (2019), the sustainability principles are by far the most important generic competence for employees in the future. Moreover, Finance Finland, Latvia and Estonia are all commited to the UN sustainable and Baltic Sea Region Strategy goals. The project activities involve, in addition to testing, piloting and developing, a survey of competence needs adressed to the finance sector, and workshops applying the ABC design, in addition to quality activities for the purpose of developing an outstanding online finance module based on sustainable principles. The engagement of students, lecturers, associated partners, stakeholders and project partners takes place both in meetings, workshops and on an ideation e-platform (Stormboard) in a three-phase development process. Testing and piloting of the module take place on Moodle by Latvian, Finnish and Estonian vocational partner institutions. The outcome of SuFi is an open online finance module (15 ects) within business education to meet new competence needs. The module will be rooted in all partner institutions and made available for all, on an open educational platform within the Central Baltic region. SuFi aims at a socially inclusive Central Baltic region by involving stakeholders, students and teachers in sustainability in finance development work with more aligned vocational education as a result.

Achievements (EN):

The Sustainability in Finance (SuFi) created a study programme on Sustainable Finance. The project SuFi created a 15 ECTS study programme on Sustainable Finance. The project resulted an open online education module within business education to meet new competence needs. The module is rooted in partner institutions and made available for all, on an open educational platform (Moodle). To be able to develop a need-based study programme, the project made a survey which mapped the finance service sector professionals’ expectations on future sustainability competence needs among vocational business graduates. The ideation process of the study programme also included views from educational institutions including students. The study programme includes three modules which can be also studied independently. The modules are following: Sustainable development and climate change (5 ects) Sustainable finance (5 ects) Future megatrends and vocational competences (5 ects) The study programme was piloted by four partner institutions: Haaga Helia University of Applied Sciences (FI), Vocational education and training center "Liepajas State Technical school" (LV), Tartu Vocational Education Centre (EE) and Åland University of Applied Sciences (AX). Totally over 400 students took part in piloting. The study programme can be accessed through Haaga-Helia Applied Science moodle platform by logging in as a quest and selecting Sustanable Finance project.

Expected Results (EN): R4.2. Increased share of aligned vocational education and training (VET) programmes in the Central Baltic region

Expected Outputs (EN):

The project´s main result is an online Sustainability in Finance module (15 ECTS) that will be taken into use by all four vocational institutions, and will be available for all on an open online educational material platform (Moodle). The SuFi module will be tested, piloted and developed jointly by all partner institutions (6). Vocational education and training center "Liepajas State Technical school" will integrate the developed module into following programs of respective level: financial manager, accountant, commercial manager. Tartu VEC will integrade the module in business management specialist. At Åland University of Applied Sciences the module will be integrated into the Study Programme for Business Administration. At Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences the Sustainability in Finance module will be integrated into the Degree Program in Business and the Degree Programme in Finance and Economics as part of the Bachelor of Business Administration Programme. Speficic deliverables of activites linked to the programme result indicator is recited: D.T1.1.1 Sustainability in Finance Competence survey. D.T1.3.2 Ideation process plan on Stormboard (N=100). D.T2.1.1 The Study Guide (curriculum) of Sustainability in Finance module (including the criteria for Sustainability in Finance online module (15 ects). D.T2.1.2 Results of survey (future sustainability in finance competence needs) (N=200). D.T2.2.1 Sustainability in Finance online module in Moodle. D.T2.3.1 Analysis of feedback from students and teachers participating in Sustainability in Finance module. D.T2.3.2 Amount of students participating in module. 2 x 10 groups (80 students) from each vocational partner institution (4) will participate in the activities and development work together with 2-3 teachers from each vocational partner institution (4) will participate in the activities and development work together with 2-3 teachers from each institution (at least 12 teachers).
