Description (EN):

The objective of the project is to support the continuous coordination of the Priority Area 5 (PA5) “Management of Environmental Risks”: to facilitate a stable, effective and innovative governance system for the PA in order to enhance cooperation in the field of flood management, disaster response, climate change and accidental hazard management in the Danube Basin; to ensure the implementation of the EUSDR by enabling smooth coordination of PA5 with special regard to ongoing processes.

Expected Results (EN): The status of management capacities of Priority Area Coordinators (PAC) to effectively implement EUSDR goals, targets and key action (survey composite indicator)

Expected Outputs (EN):

The project supports the sustainability of an improved governance of the PA5 (securing staff and covering related costs for co-coordinating countries for a 3 year period) which ensures a continuous, stable and effective coordination of the PA activities to implement its Targets and Actions in order to realize the regulations of the Floodrisk Directive (2007/60/EC) and the related elements of the WFD (2000/60/EC) in the Danube Basin, also the Decision No 1313/2013/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on a Union Civil Protection Mechanism. Eventually, the project results a more strengthened international and institutional cooperation (with other PAs, international organizations like ICPDR, ISRBC, EC, JRC, GWP and Carpathian Convention, Regional Public Authorities, Higher Education institutes, other MRSs of EU, Volunteer Rescue organizations and Disaster Management authorities) in the field of flood protection, climate change adaptation (e.g increased floods, drought management, support the EU Climate Change Adaptation Strategy) and accidental river pollutions in the region. Additionally improved and consolidated management of the PA will led to an increased project generation and to reach the higher involvement of the stakeholders into the implementation of the Strategy. The project supports the harmonization of policies and planning processes, also to discover transnational challenges and to find common solutions on macroregional level. Facilitates the realization of solidarity principle in the watershed with the involvement of non-EU countries, but evident on an upstream-downstream relation as well.

(11) enhancing institutional capacity of public authorities and stakeholders and efficient public administration through actions to strengthen the institutional capacity and the efficiency of public administrations and public services related to the implementation of the ERDF, and in support of actions under the ESF to strengthen the institutional capacity and the efficiency of public administration.
