To contribute to sustainable economic development of cross border RO-UA region via research and cooperation for developing harmonized responsible forestry practices (i.e. concerning the "dead wood" management), aiming for increasing forest ecosystem long term productivity, their resilience to climate change and biodiversity conservation.

Expected Results (EN):

By the end of project implementation, in RO-UA project target area (Maramures, Suceava counties, Ivano Frankivsk, Zakarpattia regions) framework conditions for cooperation, innovation and research related to harmonized responsible forestry practices concerning the „deadwood” management are enabled, thus aiming for increasing forest ecosystem long term productivity, their resilience to climate change and biodiversity conservation; The importance of deadwood management is acknowledged and innovative approach for increasing forest resilience is developed and demonstrated via best practice implementation for dead wood management in production forests in RO-UA project target area by the end of project implementation; Promotion and sustainability of scientific research results on forest ecosystems' long term productivity and resilience to climate change is ensured in RO-UA project target area by the end of project implementation via building capacity and expertise for final beneficiaries, advocacy work and creating the preconditions for specific research continuation.

Expected Outputs (EN):

6 institutions (research and development) involved in cooperation in R&D and support of innovation; the targeted R&D institutions in. RO are: USV, Babes Bolyai University in Sighetu Marmatiei (UBB), National Institute on Research and Development in Forestry Campu-Lung (INCDS-MD). UA: the targeted R&D institutions in. UA are UkrRIMF, Univ. Ivano Frankivsk and Uzhhorod University in Zakarpattia region; 1 common guideline on deawood role and innovative best practice management solutions developed; next to highlights on deadwood importance, different solutions will be detailed (e.g. “trees for biodiversity”, “aging islands”, deadwood reconstruction, “marginal habitats” etc.) providing technical and administrative recommendations (distribution, quantities, shape areas, time frame, etc.) for different forest stands and habitats (how to handle it in regeneration treatments, sanitary felling, thinning operations, etc.); 6 institutions (research and development) involved in cooperation in R&D and support of innovation; the targeted R&D institutions in. RO are: USV, Babes Bolyai University in Sighetu Marmatiei (UBB), National Institute on Research and Development in Forestry Campu-Lung (INCDS-MD). UA: the targeted R&D institutions in. UA are URIMF, Univ. Ivano Frankivsk and Uzhhorod University in Zakarpattia region; key stakeholders from target groups informed /trained on the research results and innovative best practices: 200 representative key stakeholders are informed about research results and innovative best practice related to deadwood management via: 1 newsletter & 1 guideline on deadwood management role; 20 persons trained (10 in RO, 10 in UA); 20 participants in project presentations scientific conferences; 10 authorities informed via letters of support; 3 research programmes that will promote the project research results on deadwood and sustainable forest management (1 MSc curricula course in RO/USV and UA /zhhorod University and 2 institute’s research strategies adapted: 1 in RO/USV and 1 in UA/UkrRIMF)
