Description (EN):

The Mediterranean UNESCO cultural heritage needs new techniques to improve its level of interpretation, taking advantage of new technologies and commercialising the latest research results. In this regard, iHERITAGE will provide new solutions through an innovation-driven growth process to promote cross-border technological transfer, Living Labs, industry-academia collaboration and the creation of spin-offs and new products, using the latest Information and Communication Technologies (ICT): Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR). The project will address socio-economic challenges at cross-border level through the active involvement of young people, women and NEETs who will take part in the Living Labs, training courses, and the creation of spin-offs, thus contributing to increase employment opportunities and foster innovation. The project will support collaborations among universities, SMEs, start-ups and spin-offs devoted to the creation of AR/VR/MR products. Eventually, iHERITAGE will improve access to UNESCO cultural heritage, on site and off site, and will contribute to the establishment of the Regional Centre for Safeguarding and Valorisation of Mediterranean Intangible Cultural Heritage, to be recognized under Category 2 of UNESCO.

Achievements (EN):

Among the key documents produced by iHERITAGE's partners, we need to refer to a set of augmented & immersive brochures on a wide variety of topics. From Alhambra's magic gardens to the impressive pyramid fields of Giza to the always astonishing city of Petra and the citadel of Byblos to the common Mediterranean Diet. All these documents are representative of the efforts deployed by all partners to present our cultural heritage from a virtual perspective. With the aim of going further in the implementation of safeguarding and valorization policies of the Mediterranean countries, the iHERITAGE project has created the first online Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Mediterranean Countries, the REIM. This is a strategic decision because up to now there was not a unique platform with common standards to access information on ICH elements of the Mediterranean region. Therefore, the creation of REIM comes to fill an important gap for the safeguarding and valorization of the Mediterranean ICH. Thanks to the REIM we can easily access online Registers for the Mediterranean ICH elements. The implementation of the REIM is a process in constant evolution and is currently displaying ICH elements of the six countries involved in the iHERITAGE project: Sicily (Italy), Algarve (Portugal), Andalusia (Spain), Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon.

Expected Results (EN):

18 research agreements among universities, researchers and SMEs. 6 new training programs created. 76 new innovative products/services to boost the valorisation of the intangible cultural heritage. Creation of the Regional Centre for Safeguarding and Valorisation of Mediterranean Intangible Cultural Heritage (CRESPIEM).

Expected Outputs (EN): 3.1 - Research Agreements, 3.2 - Training, 3.3 - Creation of innovative products/services, 3.4 - Prototyping and testing, 4.1 - Establishing of spin-offs and newco, 5.1 - Commercialisation of new products and services, 5.2 - Capitalisation activities.
