Il progetto BIOBLU si propone di dare un contributo innovativo alla rimozione dei rifiuti dalle spiagge attraverso un’analisi dello stato dell’ambiente locale e alla promozione di un nuovo approccio di gestione in funzione delle nuove tecnologie e delle nuove conoscenze disponibili. Il metodo innovativo consiste in un kit ad alta tecnologia e completamente automatico, basato su un processo di deep learning, che riconoscerà i rifiuti da remoto (tramite droni), ne consentirà la raccolta in modo robottizzato e ne faciliterà lo smaltimento in campane compattatrici in modo differenziato. Il progetto sarà attuato su due pocket beaches (letteralmente “spiagge tascabili”), piccole spiagge limitate da promontori naturali. Inoltre, grazie all’analisi fisico-biologica dei rifiuti, ne sarà determinata la provenienza, mediante un sistema integrato di rilevamento delle correnti, e l’impatto che soprattutto le microplastiche hanno sulle faune al fine di valutarne la ricaduta sulla catena alimentare. Relativamente alle due aree marine protette, il progetto si pone i seguenti obiettivi: 1) la quantificazione degli impatti negativi causati dalla presenza di plastiche e microplastiche sulla catena trofica; 2) la riduzione delle plastiche nelle aree protette con un sistema automatico; 3) l'elaborazione di un modello di gestione plastic free e di una campagna di diffusione.

Description (EN):

The BIOBLU project aims to make an innovative contribution to the removal of waste from beaches through an analysis of the state of the local environment and the promotion of a new management approach based on new technologies and available new knowledge. The innovative method consists of a kit with high level of technology and automation, based on a deep learning process, which will recognize waste remotely (via drones), allow its collection in a robotic way and facilitate its disposal in compacting bins in a separated way. The project will be implemented on two pocket beaches, small beaches limited by natural headlands. In addition, thanks to the physico-biological analysis of waste, its origin will be determined through an integrated current detection system, and it will be determined the impact that microplastics in particular have on the faune in order to assess its impact on the food chain. With regard to the two marine protected areas, the project has the following objectives: 1) to quantify the negative impacts caused by the presence of plastics and microplastics on the trophic chain; 2) to reduce plastics in protected areas with an automatic system; 3) the development of a plastic free management model and a diffusion campaign.

Expected Results (IT):

7,75 Kmq. di superfici coperte da analisi degli impatti negativi causati dalla presenza di plastiche e microplastiche sulla catena trofica (di cui AMP Milazzo 7,68 kmq e SII/BF Ramla, 0,07 kmq), due diversi protocolli automatizzati per la pulizia delle due spiagge e l’elaborazione di un modello per la gestione free-plastic di ciascuna delle due aree protette

Expected Results (EN):

7.75 sq km of surfaces covered by analysis of the negative impacts caused by the presence of plastics and microplastics on the trophic chain (of which MPA Milazzo 7.68 sq km and SII/BF Ramla, 0.07 sq km); two different protocols for cleaning in an automatized way the two beaches and the development of a model for the free-plastic management of each of the two protected areas.

n.110 campionamenti per la valutazione della distribuzione delle plastiche nei diversi ambienti marini e loro interazioni con i diversi organismi della rete trofica; n. 2 test di funzionamento del prototipo UGV per l’ispezione di terreni sabbiosi e la raccolta di rifiuti plastici; n. 2 manuali del Modello per la gestione free-plastic delle due aree protette

Expected Outputs (EN):

n. 110 samples for the assessment of the distribution of plastics in different marine environments and their interactions with the different organisms of the trophic network; n. 2 operating tests of the UGV prototype for the inspection of sandy soils and the collection of plastic waste; n. 2 manuals of the Model for the free-plastic management of the two protected areas.
