Rye Sustainability Challenge (Rural Youth Entrepreneurship) Sustainable business ideas competition for facilitating young entrepreneurs and innovators of the northern periphery and arctic. The Rye Sustainability Challenge aims to join together young innovators and entrepreneurs through a transnational ideas competition, and facilitate processes in which they can develop sustainable solutions for their local communities and economies. The project goal is to challenge participants to find concrete, sustainable and economically viable business ideas that at the same time, create regional prosperity through entrepreneurship. This will be achieved by arranging a number of the Rye Sustainability challenge competitions (12), which was a successful concept created in the previous Rye Connect -project funded by the NPA, and by capitalising on its key results and promoting the chosen approach to a broader public.

Expected Results (EN): Conditions for start-ups in remote, sparsely populated areas

Expected Outputs (EN):

The main result of the Rye Sustainability Challenge project will be the increased transnational collaboration between SME´s, young entrepreneurs and innovators and the Increased awareness of place-based opportunities rising from the idea of combining new business models with sustainable and environmentally concerned thinking. The project will have a positive qualitative contribution to the programme result and results indicators 2.1 conditions for start-ups in remote, sparsely populated areas and also 2.2 awareness of business opportunities beyond local markets among SME´s. The Rye Sustainability Challenge project will build awareness and ambition for finding a new solution base for a growth potential arising from the concept of sustainable development. The networking and joint ideas generation format of the project will help remove geographical barriers, promote knowledge transfer and create critical positive movement withing the peripheral and arctic regions.
