Description (EN):

Croatia is mine-contaminated as a result of the Homeland war that lasted from June 1991 until the end of 1995. Some of the minefields reached the Hungarian territory at the border line between River Drava and River Danube causing direct life danger to the inhabitants. Mine contaminated areas were surveyed and cleared during the finished project De-mine HU-HR which serve as starting point to the present project proposal. In the finished project not only mine suspected area was defined, but also data was collected on UXO suspected areas at the Hungarian side of the border, which hasn't been abolished fully yet.After the finished successful demining project it has become apparent that still there are mines and UXO suspected areas along the river Drava on Croatian territory and UXO suspected areas in Hungary close to the borderline due to the vicinity of the occupied Beli Manastir-Osijek corridor in the Homeland war of Croatia and maneuvers taken for recapturing it. During the previous Project De-mine HU-HR I- 118 pieces of mines na 3 UXO's were found and destroyed and 25 pieces of UXO's (hand grenades, mortar shells etc...) were found on the Hungarian territory close to the border line, in the 25 meters strip. Project area on Croatian side is continuation of the previous project and consists of whole SHA of the Municipality Draž and minefields along the river Drava from the D1 border stone to the Town of Belišće that will ensure additional information for the future CROMAC technical survey activities in this area. With demining of this territory local population and tourists will be able to use land for their activities for example hunting and fishing tourism that is very developed in this area. It will also create safe enviroment for the development of the rural village tourism and small farms. Planned duration is 24 months. Expected output is that all known minefields in this area will be cleared. It is necessary to continue this work and survey the protected national park areas in greater depth and farder from the border to abolish the dangerous contamination and to ensure free movement through the Schengen internal borders in the near future. Location in Hugarian side is designated territory of the Danube-Drava National Park and other land - belongs to Kölked, Udvar, Sátorhely, Old settlements - will be scanned by special detectors in 1,5 meters in depth as a technical survey. In case of UXO detection, exact location will be explored and all the UXO’s found will be handed over to the HU Army for destroy. Entry and UXO search needs permit to the territory of the DDNP. Planneed duration is 24 months. Expected output is that after the implementation of the project most susupicious nature protected territories will be clear from UXO's and passable safely.

Achievements (EN):

De-mine HU-HR II, as a first ever Hungarian-Croatian cross-border strategic project, is a continuation of the previous successful and well-known operation financed from the Hungary-Croatia (IPA) CBC Programme 2007-2013. With further demining of the Croatian part of the border area and removal of UXO's (hand grenades, mortar shells etc...) on the Hungarian side, local population and tourists are enabled to use wider area for their activities, such as hunting and fishing tourism. It has also created safer environment for the development of rural tourism. Within De-mine HU-HR II project duration of 24 months, 240 landmines and 66 UXOs were found and destroyed in Croatia, at two locations in Osječko-baranjska county alongside rivers Drava and Danube. At the same time 1431 kg of metal contamination (bombshells, grenades, ignition devices, machine gun ammunition…) was detected and destroyed on the Hungarian territory close to the border line.
