Description (EN): Proposed project area has become a focal point in bicycle tourism and is part of international cycling route EuroVelo13.Eventhoe the route involves already reconstructed bicycle infrastructure, thanks to previous IPA CBC HU-HR projects, there is still need for improvement of bicycle road sections and development of additional services that will increase the attractiveness of this cross-border cyclotouristic destination. There are still gaps that need to be filled in, in order to improve attractiveness among tourists on EV13.Experiences show that improving cycling infrastructures can increase cycling tourism in short time, but also doesn’t affect the nature in negative way, as other tourism forms do. To create sustainability added value needs to be created by combining it with other tourism forms. Proposed component is chosen in order to improve the existing cycling infrastructure on higher level and offer additional content as added value of this cross-border cycling destination.
EV initiative aims to provide safe, high quality cycling routes and project contributes to development of capillary cyclotouristic/safe cycling routes that miss interaction with motor vehicles.Project contributes to the Program goal-Converting the region’s natural and cultural heritage assets to tourism attractions with income generating capabilities.Cycling is considered as environmental friendly tourism form, that will not only have small impact on environment but also promote the natural values of the cross-border area connected to river Drava.Project area is part of UNESCO’s transboundary biosphere reserve Mura-Drava-Dunav and cycling will have great impact on promotion of natural heritage but also on development of tourism form that will not have a negative impact, but will generate income to local economy. It is in line with area of focus for intervention-Creating sustainable joint regional tourism products of the Mura-Drava-Danube zone and in surrounding natural and rural values.
