2 towns (Orahovica and Villány) share the same point of view when it comes to wine production, they are located in major wine growing areas, and thus share a mutual, joint vision of a strong and positive image of wine tourism in the region they represent. The 2 towns were willing to learn from each other through 2 mutual CBC HU HR projects in the past, and would like to continue to do the same through this project which will develop cross border tourism around the joint cultural heritage. The proposed project contributes to the programme objectives - Specific Objective 2.1 by fostering common cultural heritage through joint wine manifestations, workshops and the improvement public infrastructure in order to enrich the tourism offer of the cross border area covered by the project. It is important to link these culturally similar regions in order to create a sustainable tourism product and to achieve the preferred multiplier effect. The project will be implemented in 2 regions – Orahovica and Villany in duration of 18 months. 2 wine tourism oriented cities will organize several wine manifestations dedicated to the traditional wine sort that grows in their region and to the culture around wine. Target groups of the project are primarily tourists who visit the cross border region will be receiving valuable knowledge about the common wine and food culture of 2 areas. Employees of units of local self-government will be participating on events in other regions, they will be the ones who will transfer examples of good practice to their own region and become carriers for future sustainable development of cultural tourism. Members of wine growing associations will see examples of good practice in other regions, thus learn new wine growing techniques, also they will benefit from an increased number of tourists who will use the reconstructed tourism infrastructure. New and innovative joint events are introduced as result of partner cooperation in the past and combined with the best events from previous project will generate more intense appearance of visitors in the region. In Orahovica, former locksmith's workshop will be transformed into a visitor center. The current building is dilapidated house with a large unused attic, residential-business purpose and looks very reminiscent of the facades of wine cellars in Villany, hence the idea to turn it into a Visitor center. The improved tourist infrastructure will greatly contribute to the development of tourism in the cross border region by expanding its touristic offer,while fostering common historical roots and traditions and will enable socio-economic spillovers across the region. Reconstructed public squares in Villany will create a suitable place for quality leisure time, for organization od school recitals and sport facilities accessible to public that was not possible before.R1: Cross-border region’s wine tourism infrastructure developed: - 291,80m2 of total usable area after reconstruction of Visitor center in Orahovica. - 1953,79 m2 of reconstructed public squares in Villany (1286 m2+667,79 m2). R2: Tourism offer enriched with innovative tourism products . - 4 innovative tourism products introduced (Activities 9,10,11,12). - 4 best practice events upgraded and and replicated based on previous experience. R3: Level of education on wine and food culture in the cross-border region increased. - 2 training programmes for wine producers. - 2 study visits for wine producers and journalists. R4: Common cultural values promoted. - 2 conferences. - promotional materials. - web page. - 13 newspaper articles. - 12 radio promotions. - 7 TV reports. Implementation of project activities will achieve the set results and contribute to the expanding of touristic offer in the cross-border region,fostering common cultural values and enable socio-economic spillovers across the region.

Achievements (EN):

The continuation of a previous joint cooperation of the two border towns, Orahovica and Villány, focuses on the development of wine tourism. The common wine-growing tradition of the area has been recognised by the partner towns as a shared resource on which to build additional tourist offer for the visitors to the area. As part of the project several joint events promoting the local wine and cuisine were organised, including two wine races and an international Wine Queen contest. Also included in the project were educational workshops for the local wine producers and the development of a regional wine tasting centre.
