Description (EN):

In the cross-border area of Koprivničko-križevačka, Međimurska, Zala and Somogy County there is a mutual demand to increase the level of knoweldge and experiences among institutions related to agriculture sector which is the field of common interest. Specific objective of the project is to encourage institutions to actively participate in the development of agricultural sector through the introduction of short food supply chains. This institutional support is essential, but only if the institutions which support this sector have access to comprehensive knoweldge. The intensity of cross-border cooperation related to agriculture sector is very low. This project is important incentive for future more institutionalised operations because it will generate motivation for further joint activities between institutions. All partners involved in this project are ready and capable to develop and implement meaningful cooperation project in following 16 months. Main target groups: staff members of the local, regional and national institutions and authorities located in the programme area (including regional and sectoral development agencies), staff members of local, county and regional self-governments and their undertakings, population of the border region. Other potential target g. are: local, county and regional self-governments and their undertakings, local and national institutions and authorities located in the programme area, civil society organisations, labour market services and other national and regional labour market organizations. Partners are responsible to encourage awareness of the importance of agriculture in the cross-border area for the common good of all citizens, but above all, they are responsible to encourage institutions to work together and develop the agricultural sector through eduacation and SFSCs. Big part of territory of the programme will be targeted through strong promotional activities and learnig processes. Wide range of organizations – public bodies, NGOs, companies, citizens and other entities will be directly involved in the project implementation.The idea is to create new joined structures and shared processes in order to ensure the continuity of cooperation effective in the border area. The expected results are: well-established processes for building up regional institutional cooperation in agriculture sector because the need is expressed by stakeholders (related also to the labour market and promotion of employment in agriculture) with use of ICT technologies which will be designed and implemented, more effective working relationships due to good practice exchange (trips to Austria), project meetings and transfer of knowledge form different EU countries, improved public institutional capacities and skills and planning systems and processes better harmonized (in line with planning processes), common regional interests and development directions identified. On the civil society level: existing links and individual relationships will be developed further; the scope of cooperation will be extended by involving a range of new actors, widening the variety of trainings in the whole border region; enhancing the level of mutual understanding and acceptance, by showing the society positive experiences of cooperation which will be spurred by the desire on the improvment of situation in agriculture. The idea is to bring this SFSCs concept closer to population with the help of supporting institutions. EU Common agricultural policy also consider SFSCs as one of the key approaches to increasing competitiveness of agricultural sector. We believe that institutions through mutual cooperation and education, may be initiators of the local economical development, in particular of the agricultural sector. Other outputs: documents with situation analyses and common approaches, trainings, on-line tool for knoweldge transfer and IT system for SFSCs functioning.

Achievements (EN):

Four border counties, Koprivničko-križevačka, Međimurska, Zala and Somogy have expressed mutual demand to increase the level of knowledge and experience among institutions related to agriculture sector, as a field of common interest. Thus, project aimed to encourage institutions to actively participate in the development of agricultural sector through the introduction of short food supply chains (SFSCs). As a result, four new documents have been elaborated (two "Current situation analysis in Agro- food sector", "SFSCs in cross border area", Guidelines for institutions: "How to establish SFSCs"). Four SFSCs, two in Croatia and two in Hungary were established thanks to the project within the border region, supported with the website with on-line forum for knowledge transfer.
