The huge agro-livestock production of the Iberian penisula also has a great environmental impact. Waste management is a challenge that the Symbiosis project faces by creating a centre for research and clean energy generation. Cross-border cooperation promotes the efficient management of agricultural holdings in the area of cooperation in order to provide them with greater profitability and competitiveness. This, through the promotion of the integration of agricultural and livestock activity through technological development and innovation from the transfer of research results carried out from the “CENTRO TRANSFRONTERIZO DE INVESTIGATION AND TRANSFERENCE OF THE AGROPECUARIO SECTOR (CTIT)” by the Science, Technology and Innovation System of Castilla y León and the Central Region. In this way, the project has contributed to the economic and social development of the entire cross-border territory. Activities: Analysis of the current situation: capitalisation and collection of information. Establishment and management of a Transboundary Research and Transfer Technology Centre (CTIT). Research, patent development and knowledge production. Transfer, prospection and social and economic innovation. Results: Pilot: how does a sustainable farm work? How to make a farm more efficient and clean? The first milking of the day can be done thanks to the energy supplied by the batteries, while if the energy demand increases, for example due to irrigation, the farm can get its energy from the biogas generated from its own waste, such as manure and plant debris.

La ingente producción agro-ganadera de la penísula ibérica representa tiene también un gran impacto ambiental. La gestión de los residuos es un desafío que al que el proyecto Symbiosis hace frente mediante la creación de un centro para la investigación y para la generación de energía limpia. Mediante la cooperación transfronteriza se promueve la gestión eficiente de las explotaciones agropecuarias del espacio de cooperación con el fin de dotarlas de una mayor rentabilidad y competitividad. Esto, mediante el fomento de la integración de la actividad agrícola y ganadera a través del desarrollo tecnológico y de la innovación procedente de la transferencia de resultados de investigación realizada desde el “CENTRO TRANSFRONTERIZO DE INVESTIGACIÓN Y TRANSFERENCIA DEL SECTOR AGROPECUARIO (CTIT)” por parte del Sistema de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación de Castilla y León y la Región Centro. De esta manera, el proyecto ha contribuído al desarrollo económico y social del conjunto del territorio transfronterizo. Actividades: Análisis de la situación actual: capitalización y recogida de información. Creación y gestión de un centro tecnológico transfronterizo de investigación y transferencia (CTIT). Investigación, desarrollo de patentes y producción de conocimiento. Transferencia, prospección e innovación social y económica. Resultados: Piloto: ¿cómo funciona una granja sostenible? ¿Cómo hacer que una granja sea más eficiente y limpia? El primer ordeño del día se puede hacer gracias a la energía suministrada por las baterías, mientras que si la demanda de energía aumenta, por ejemplo debido al riego, la granja puede obtener su energía del biogás generado a partir de sus propios desechos, como estiércol y restos de plantas.
