EtnoCarpathia

The main idea of the project is the development and promotion of the cultural heritage of the Polish-Slovak borderland through the development of a tourist product EtnoCarpathia based on the resources of Carpathian culture. Traditional folk culture existing in the borderland of World War II ethnographic groups can be an important factor in the development of tourism in the Carpathians, in line with the trends of cultural tourism and tourism 3XE. Hence, the activities planned in the project will be aimed at increasing the attractiveness and recognition of the borderland through the use of cultural heritage resources. The project activities were divided into five stages. The first stage involves verifying the potential of EtnoCarpathia by inventorying the state of cultural resources of the region, cataloging them and preparing strategies of ethnographic brands (submarines) along with a tourist offer based on the uniqueness of cultures. The second stage will be innovative. It is assumed to create a modern web portal EtnoCarpathia, e-guides (in the form of mobile applications), holographic projections of the Carpathian brand ambassadors, digitisation of resources of ethnic culture. Stage III involves organising a competition for designers CarpathiaEtnoDesign (CED) for the use of elements of traditional design related to border cultures and the preparation of “carpathian sketches”. The caskets will contain several everyday, usable items (e.g. scarf, men’s socks, etc.) with traditional designs developed by the winners of the CED competition. Stage IV of the project involves conducting workshops/meetings related to the promotion/development of borderland cultures with summary instructional videos. The fifth stage focuses on typically promotional activities aimed at wider promotion of the project’s effects (promotional weekends, scientific conference, ethnographic exhibition, international gala, dance festival, visit of bloggers).

Główną ideą projektu jest rozwój i promocja dziedzictwa kulturowego pogranicza polsko-słowackiego poprzez opracowanie produktu turystycznego EtnoCarpathia opartego o zasoby kultury karpackiej. Tradycyjna kultura ludowa istniejących na terenie pogranicza do II wojny światowej grup etnograficznych może stanowić istotny, zgodny z trendami turystyki kulturowej i turystyki 3XE, czynnik rozwoju turystyki w Karpatach. Stąd, działania zaplanowane w projekcie będą skierowane na zwiększenie atrakcyjności i rozpoznawalności pogranicza poprzez wykorzystanie zasobów dziedzictwa kulturowego. Działania projektowe zostały podzielone na 5 etapów. I etap obejmuje weryfikację potencjału EtnoCarpathii poprzez inwentaryzację stanu zasobów kulturowych regionu, ich skatalogowanie i przygotowanie strategii marek etnograficznych (submarek) wraz z ofertą turystyczną bazującą na unikatowości kultur. II etap będzie miał charakter innowacyjny. Zakłada się powstanie nowoczesnego portalu internetowego EtnoCarpathia, e-przewodników (w formie aplikacji mobilnych), projekcji holograficznych ambasadorów marki karpackiej, digitalizację zasobów kultury etnicznej. Etap III obejmuje przeprowadzenie konkursu dla designerów CarpathiaEtnoDesign (CED) na wykorzystanie elementów wzornictwa tradycyjnego związanego z kulturami pogranicza oraz przygotowanie „szkatułek karpackich”. Szkatułki będą zawierały kilka codziennych, użytkowych przedmiotów (np. apaszka, skarpety męskie itp.) na których znajdą się tradycyjne wzory opracowane przez laureatów konkursu CED. Etap IV projektu obejmuje przeprowadzenie warsztatów/spotkań związanych z promocją/rozwojem kultur pogranicza z podsumowującymi filmikami instruktażowymi. V etap skupia się na działaniach typowo promocyjnych mających na celu szerszą promocję efektów projektu (weekendy promocyjne, konferencja naukowa, wystawa etnograficzna, międzynarodowa gala, festiwal tańców, wizyta blogerów).

Project successes The project activities were divided into 5 phases. The first phase included an inventory of cultural resources. As a result of the inventory, a report with a knowledge base was prepared. One of the main elements of the report is the cataloging of resources by cultural areas (e.g. design, cuisine, spiritual culture, crafts, music). Based on the resource inventory report, a strategy for 7 sub-brands to create a tourist product was developed. In addition, publications have been published. One of them is scientific in nature and is aimed at individuals and institutions dealing with the ethnography of the border area. The second publication has an advertising character and appears in the form of an image album covering identified and catalogued brand culture areas. The second phase is the development of modern forms of cultural heritage promotion – the introduction of the EtnoCarpathia portal, which provides information about the project and its impact. It is also the most important advertising medium for the resulting tourism product. In addition, e-guides have been created. In the area of the created sub-brands, 7 completely or partially destroyed/non-existent objects were selected. On their basis, e-guides were created with both text (audio) and photo versions. An additional element of the guide is the ability to display an image with a mobile phone or tablet that shows the appearance of the object at that time. The above solution is an additional attraction for tourists who can visit individual facilities in a different, modern way. An additional element is the creation of a visualisation, a hologram of a figure related to the cultural heritage of the borderland. The CARPATHIAETNODESIGN competition is the third phase of the project. This is a competition for young designers to use elements of traditional design related to border cultures and to produce carpathian accessories with materials characteristic of border cultures. Based on the results of the competition, the so-called “carpathian coffin” becomes. In the fourth phase, workshops and information events will be held, including on the emergence and importance of regional brands, as well as craft and photo workshops. The final stage includes events to promote the cultural heritage of the border area: Etno weekend – a two-day cultural event to promote the values of the Polish-Slovak border. Study trip to selected ethno destinations (7 days) for 15 tourist bloggers and journalists. International gala to sum up the project.
