In Biokuma, researchers study how small-scale, organic food production works in practice, taking into account the management of biocultural heritage. The idea is also to develop recommendations for working methods and processes that benefit the biocultural heritage. Since the conditions for biocultural heritage and alternative food production differ between Norway and Sweden, the project will also investigate if and how positive experiences on either side of the border can be used. Among other things, the researchers will interview farmers at selected organic farms in Värmland and Hedmark, consumers at Reko rings, farm shops and other sales channels. The project also includes mapping upper secondary and higher education programmes, apprenticeships, volunteering and other means of transferring knowledge and experience in the field. The partners are the County Administrative Board of Värmland, the Swedish Forest Agency (Värmland-Örebro), the Federation of Swedish Fäbodkultur and Outland Uses, the Association of Värmlands Säterkultur, Hedmarken Landbrukskontor, Innlandet county municipality wood Jønsberg videreeskolane and foreningen Norsk Seterkultur.

I Biokuma studerar forskare hur småskalig, ekologisk matproduktion fungerar i praktiken, med hänsyn till förvaltning av biokulturellt arv. Tanken är även att arbeta fram rekommendationer för arbetsmetoder och processer som gynnar det biokulturella arvet. Eftersom förhållandena för biokulturellt arv och alternativ matproduktion skiljer sig åt mellan Norge och Sverige, ska projektet även undersöka om och hur positiva erfarenheter på ömse sidor gränsen kan användas. Forskarna kommer bland annat att intervjua lantbrukare på utvalda ekologiska gårdar i Värmland och i Hedmark, konsumenter vid Reko-ringar, gårdsbutiker och andra försäljningskanaler. I projektet ingår även att kartlägga utbildningar på gymnasie- och högskolenivå, lärlingsprogram, volontärarbete och andra sätt att överföra kunskap och erfarenheter inom området. Samarbetsparter är Länsstyrelsen i Värmland, Skogsstyrelsen (Värmland-Örebro), Förbundet Svensk Fäbodkultur och utmarksbruk, Föreningen Värmlands Säterkultur, Hedmarken Landbrukskontor, Innlandet fylkeskommune ved Jønsberg videregående skole samt foreningen Norsk seterkultur.
