E-Parks project is focusing on the improvement of accessibility and mobility of people with special needs in national parks and natural areas by developing and updating existing infrastructure, while at the same time it promotes the cooperation and the creation of a network for stakeholders of the local economies by enabling partnerships at all levels and with all actors. The project is aiming at promoting the tourism potential of Protected Natural Areas in Apulia Region in Italy and Greece. Thanks to this project a new label for public and private subjects operating on the territory of protected natural areas, will be developed. The label allows to combine the protection of the natural environment, the rational use of scarce resources and safeguarding of people with special needs. The University of Foggia – Department of Economics leads the project partnership in cooperation with two italian partners Gargano National Park and Gargano Reclamation Consortium, and two greek partners the Chamber of Commerce of Arta and the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece. The ASL of Foggia and Confindustria Foggia are associated partners of the project.

Achievements (EN):

1) Improve the touristic attractiveness and accessibility of the territories targeted integrating them in offering the global means of a certain certification system and a natural protocol of development and enhancement of the unique cultural heritage;2) Make researches/studies on managerial tools for innovative management "combined" the environmental variables and administrative issues in protected natural areas both for public administration, with relevant performance indicators, falling in those areas to be tested in experimental interventions;3) Create a "Label" for sustainable management of protected natural areas with a cross-border approach to encourage sustainable tourism. The "Label" identifies sustainable tourism even for people with special needs in protected natural areas that combine environmental stewardship with the administrative one in coordination with the government and its communication plan;4) Implement action plans for smart management of tourism destination in natural protected areas according to the international regulations for accessibility of people with special needs;5) Create an action of networking among the protected natural areas and public administrations involved in the experimental interventions, for the establishment of an association that will seek to involve all the protected natural areas and their falling public authorities in targeted areas on the PPP model;6) Maximise the results of sustainable tourism exploitation of the natural and cultural heritage by strengthening transnational coordination and cooperation.

Delivered Outputs (EN):

1.An infopoint and a birdwatching station accessible to people with disabilities have been inaugurated at Lake Varano, in Puglia Region in italy; 2. E-Parks APP is an innovative app for the visitors of protected natural areas in #WesternGreece. The app targets people with special needs, providing useful information for each point of interest. 3. International Course on Accessible Tourism 4 . 4 pilot cases to demonstrate the environmental accessibility in the park areas even for people with special needs; 5. a Label for voluntary certification system generated by unique parameters to be submitted at EU and UN level; the establishment of a cross-border school through the training course.
