Description (EN):

Recycling methods that add value to waste processing residues are of great interest, and it can be expected that the overall profit from waste processing may be increased by an efficient and sustainable waste stream-management. This project proposal aims to investigate the chemical composition, conservation methods, nutritive value and guidelines for incorporation of agro-industrial wastes in animal diets. It also covers aspects related to utilization of such wastes as a substrate for the generation of value-added products. It is expected that this proposal will promote conversion of wastes to resources and help generate opportunities for development. The recycling of these resources will economise on animal feed and also alleviate the environmental pollution associated with disposal of waste by products. The project is intended for use by extension workers, researchers, feed industries, food processing industries, NGOs, farmers’ associations, producers, policy-makers and science managers. Thus, the present project proposal evaluates the use of innovative feed from agro-industrial wastes in animal nutrition, by environmentally-friendly solutions, to improve animal health and quality of their products.

Achievements (EN):

Related to joint pilot actions will produce benefits for local stakeholders(producers, environment, local population) by increasing competitiveness, recycling wastes and improving the health of local population .The main benefit of TRASNATIONAL COOPERATION will be the production of a common "Mediterranean" product which will help diversify the industries of each participant and contribute to strengthen their completeness using by-products abundantly produced in both regions (wine olive oil and cheese by-products). The projects key innovation is the implementation of a novel way of using waste to produce added value for local producers and population while creating new products with minimal costs.A significant increase in the quality of animal products as well of the sustainability of their production system. A support to EU policies on agriculture, nutrition, health, environment, development and sustainable food security. A strengthening of industrial cooperation and the EU economy, with a specific focus on SMEs and small-scale food system.An increase in new market opportunities, in the short and medium term, as measured in terms of market share, turnover, employment and intellectual property.A clear contribution to social innovation due to fair trade/fairer trade, as well as an increase in socio-economic and environmental sustainability.
