The Karawanken UGG will develop a transboundary water strategy with support of 2 research institutions.This strategy will serve the implementation and the achievement of the IR programme objectives for the management and economic use of water resources.The project focuses on the "smaller" rivers and streams mentioned in the programme document.The water systems are connected in several ways and can only be studied and managed on a transboundary basis; many flood protection measures, as well as the protection and use of water bodies, can only be designed and implemented on a transboundary basis.For its long-term development, the 14 municipalities of the Geopark need a strategy, for protection and potential of its waters.The strategy will be developed based on the results of a scientific elaboration of basic principles as well as technology-based pilot actions in a broad participation process. The project aims at the development and application of innovative technologies for the management of surface and underground waters. An innovative interactive viewer for the consolidation and analysis of information on water management will be developed, combining Austrian and Slovenian data sets on the region in a model way.Three bilateral pilot actions deal with relevant topics.In the pilot action on integrated water management, exemplary measures are being developed that stress on smooth water flows and reduce the risks of natural desasters.The project does not focus exclusively on the streams themselves, but on measures in the catchment area of the watercourse and in the area of all tributaries. In the pilot action on the thermal and mineral waters, models and possibilities for the valorisation of water are being developed. In a pilot action for monitoring karst waters, new technologies and instruments for monitoring karst waters will be applied and tested.All 3 pilot actions will be used to discuss a cross-border water strategy in the Karavanke in the future.

Za območje Karavanke UNESCO Globalnega Geoparka bomo ob podpori dveh raziskovalnih ustanov izdelali čezmejno strategijo upravljanja z vodami. Ta bo služila predvsem za izvajanje in doseganje programskih ciljev v okviru upravljanja in gospodarske rabe vodnih virov. Projekt se pri tem osredotoča na manjše reke in potoke, ki so v programu posebej izpostavljeni. Vodni sistemi so med sabo povezani na več različnih načinov, zato mora njihovo raziskovanje in upravljanje potekati čezmejno; tudi ukrepe za zaščito pred visokimi vodami ter za zaščito in rabo voda je potrebno zasnovati in izvajati čezmejno. 14 občin, ki so povezane v Geopark, za svoj dolgoročni razvoj potrebujejo strategijo za zaščito in razvoj potenciala voda. Strategija bo gradila na rezultatih znanstvenega dela in tehnološko podprtih pilotnih aktivnosti v procesu širokega sodelovanja. Projekt cilja na razvoj in uporabo inovativnih tehnologij pri upravljanju voda. Izdelali bomo nov interaktivni pregledovalnik za upravljanje voda. Tri pilotne aktivnosti naslavljajo vse bistvene teme. Prav tako bomo pripravili primere ukrepov, ki omogočajo nemoten pretok vode in s tem zmanjšujejo možnost pojava naravnih katastrof. Ukrepi se ne nanašajo zgolj na ožje območje vodotokov, ampak na celotno zbirno območje posameznega vodotoka. V sklopu pilotne aktivnosti, ki se nanaša na termalne in mineralne vode, bomo predstavili možnosti za valorizacijo voda. V sklopu pilotne aktivnosti, ki se nanaša na kraške vode, bomo uporabili in preizkusili nove tehnologije in naprave za opazovanje kraških voda. Vse pilotne aktivnosti bodo vključene v razpravo o bodoči čezmejni strategiji upravljanja z vodami na območju gorske verige Karavank.

Im Karawanken UNESCO Global Geopark wird mit Unterstützung von zwei Forschungseinrichtungen eine bilaterale Wasserstrategie erarbeitet. Diese dient in besonderem Maße der Umsetzung und Erreichung der Programmziele zur Bewirtschaftung und der wirtschaftlichen Nutzung von Wasserressourcen. Dabei fokussiert das Projekt auf die im Programm explizit genannten kleineren Flüsse und Bäche. Die Gewässersysteme sind mit einander in mehrfacher Weise verbunden und können daher nur grenzüberschreitend untersucht und gemanagt werden; auch viele Maßnahmen zum Hochwasserschutz, wie auch dem Schutz und der Nutzung von Gewässern können nur grenzüberschreitend konzipiert und umgesetzt werden. Die 14 Geoparkgemeinden benötigen für ihre langfristige Entwicklung eine Strategie, zum Schutz und zu den Potenzialen der Gewässer. Die Strategie wird aufbauend auf die Ergebnisse einer wissenschaftlichen Erarbeitung von Grundlagen sowie von technologiebasierten Pilotaktionen in einem breiten Beteiligungsprozess erarbeitet. Das Projekt zielt auf die Entwicklung und Anwendung innovativer Technologien zum Management von Gewässern. Es wird ein neuartiger interaktives Viewer zum Wassermanagement erarbeitet. Drei bilaterale Pilotaktionen beschäftigen sich mit besonders relevanten Themen. Ebenso werden exemplarische Maßnahmen erarbeitet, die einen reibungslosen Wasserabfluss begünstigen und damit die Risiken von Naturkatastrophen verringern. Das Vorhaben fokussiert nicht ausschließlich auf die Bachläufe selbst, sondern auch auf das Einzugsgebiet des Gewässers. In einer Pilotaktion zu den Thermal- und Mineralwässern werden Möglichkeiten zur Inwertsetzung von Wasser erarbeitet. In einer Pilotaktion zum Monitoring von Karstwässern sollen neue Technologien und Instrumente zur Beobachtung von Karstgewässern eingesetzt und getestet werden. Alle drei Pilotaktionen sollen für die Diskussion einer zukünftigen grenzüberschreitenden Wasserstrategie im Gebirgszug der Karawanken herangezogen werden.

Expected Outputs (SL):

Preko projekta bo dosežena bilateralna strategija za trajnostno upravljanje voda. Obravnaval se bo tako potencial rabe obstoječih mineralnih izvirov, možnosti za zaščito številnih izvirnih območij in s tem bilateralni vodni ekosistem, kot tudi površinski učinki s tem povezanim poplavnim in onesnaževalnim potencialom. Vsi rezultati imajo neposreden in posreden vpliv na čezmejne rečne režime rek Vellach/Bela, Feistritz/Bistrica in Meža in nadalje reke Drave.

Expected Outputs (DE):

Durch das Projekt wird eine bilaterale Strategie zum nachhaltigen Wassermanagement erzielt. Es werden sowohl Nutzungspotentiale der vorhandenen Mineralquellen erarbeitet, Möglichkeiten zum Schutz der vielzähligen Quellgebiete und somit des bilateralen Wasserhaushaltes, als auch die Oberflächen-Auswirkungen mit den damit weiters verbundenen Überschwemmungs- und Verunreinigungspotential. Sämtliche Resultate haben direkte und indirekte Einflüsse auf die grenzüberschreitenden Flussregime der Vellach, Feistritz und Meža und in weiterer Folge der Drau.
