Relevant linked projects:
- FENIX – Connecting Europe Facility (EN) | FENIX – “A European Federated Network of Information eXchange in LogistiX” – is a CEF project led by Ertico aiming to support the development, validation and deployment of the digital information systems along the EU transport Core Network, comprising 11 pilot sites in 9 EU countries, with 43 beneficiaries located on 9 TEN-T corridors. LP, PP3 and PP6 are FENIX partners.
- FENIX focuses on the optimisation of multimodal transport along the whole logistic chain at EU level: ACCESSMILE will apply its methodologies and analysis to the last mile section of freight transport, with a specific focus to the connection between rural and peripheral areas to the main TEN-T nodes
- (EN), MERIDIAN – CEF2 (EN) | MERIDIAN - “Managing Europe's busiest TEN-T corridors fostering green, digital and multimodal services” – is a CEF2 project proposal submitted in Jan. 2022 and led by Die Autobahn GmbH, with a wide partnership comprising 24 among ministries, road authorities, road operators, urban and port authorities (among which LP and PP3), a federal highway research institute and hub operators from Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia and the Netherlands.
- MERIDIAN targets the expansion of digital infrastructure, the roll-out of C-ITS in central Europe, implementation of ITS for bottlenecks on open road and tunnels, digital corridor management and Multimodal Services.
- If funded, MERIDIAN and ACCESSMILE will work in two complementary areas: cooperation of ITS services between road logistic operators and ports (MERIDIAN) and IT applications and tools to optimise the last mile section of freight transport (ACCESSMILE). (EN)

Contribution to wider strategies and policies:
- EuropeanGreenDeal By optimising and streamlining last-mile freight transport from/to rural and peripheral areas, reducing vehicle idle time at port/terminal gates and supporting modal shift, ACCESSMILE is in line with the EU Green Deal, which foresees a 90% reduction of the sector’s emissions by 2050 compared to 1990 levels, with sizable contributions across all modes.
- TerritorialAgenda2030 ACCESSMILE’s ultimate goal of strengthening the cohesion of CE regions by making last mile freight transport more efficient through ICT is fully in line with TA2030, whereby “Physical and digital connections are important for European societies and economies and pose major environmental challenges. Therefore, smart, sustainable and safe forms of transport and connectivity are needed, especially to support the priorities of a balanced Europe and functional regions” (…) “Efficient and environmentally friendly transport solutions are ever more important to achieving climate, air pollution, noise objectives, accessibility and connectivity of all regions in Europe. This includes transport modes individually, as well as combined transport” (…) “Linking all places with major transport nodes supports international trade connections and local development opportunities”.
- EUStrategyAdriaticIonianRegion ACCESSMILE is consistent with EUSAIR, since its Plan of Action foresees 1) Maritime transport: Action “Improving and harmonising traffic monitoring and management”- “Implementation of ICT and intelligent infrastructure services to improve the efficiency, reliability and safety/security of the port operations and of the delivery system”; 2) Intermodal connections to the hinterland. Also, it is coherent with the “Adriatic-Ionian Green/Smart Port Hubs Concept” EUSAIR Flagship project.
- EUStrategyAlpineRegion ACCESSMILE is consistent with EUSALP, since its plan of action foresees the “promotion of intermodality” with specific reference to “optimising existing infrastructures between regional ports and terminals by new governance models and IT tools”, and “To support the modal shift from road to rail”. The AG4 Work Plan 2020-2022 includes the thematic area no. 1 “Smart clean logistics and combined transport to support modal shift”. The LP is a member of AG4.
- EUStrategyBalticSeaRegion ACCESSMILE is consistent with EUSBSR, since one of the priorities included in its action plan within the Policy Area “Transport” is “Facilitate innovative technologies & solutions in the Baltic Sea region” whereby “The digitalisation, automation, 5G technology, Blockchain technology and synchromodal transport solutions are key instruments to reduce bottlenecks, transport externalities and improve the utilisation of payload capacities along the supply chain”.
- EUStrategyDanubeRegion ACCESSMILE is consistent with EUSDR, since its action plan (Pillar 1b) foresees the objective of “developing further nodal planning for multimodality", having as target “To support the development of efficient multimodal terminals at sea, river and dry ports in the Danube Region and ensure their connectivity and access through the integration of all modes of transport and efficient logistics services by 2030”
- Other ACCESSMILE contributes to reaching the objectives set for freight transport by the EC, among others in the “White Paper – Roadmap to a Single European Transport Area” and in “A Roadmap moving to a competitive low carbon economy in 2050”. ACCESSMILE is also consistent with EU policy on ICT: ITS Directive (2010/40/EU), EU Regulation on electronic freight transport information (eFTI – Regulation 2020/1056) and the works of the DTLF – Digital Transport and Logistics Forum. Furthermore, by optimising last mile multimodal freight transport, it is also in line with the goals of the Air Quality Directive (Dir 2008/50/EC).
- Moreover, ACCESSMILE is consistent with 1) Italian Strategic National Plan for Ports and Logistics; 2) Transport development strategy of Slovenia; 3) National Strategy of Sea and Inland Ports of Germany; 4) National Transport Strategy for Hungary (NKS); 5) Transport Development Strategy of Poland (SRT); 6) Croatian Strategy for Transport Development 2014-2030 A; 7) Transport Regional Plans of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto Regions; 8) S3 and Digitalisation Strategy of the Liguria Region; 9) Logistics and digitalisation plans of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern; 10) Development Strategy of the Pomorskie Region.
