Relevant linked projects:
- UPSURGE - City-centered approach to catalyze nature-based solutions through the EU Regenerative Urban Lighthouse for pollution alleviation and regenerative development (Horizon 2020) (EN) | The UPSURGE is a Horizon 2020 project that started in Sept.2021 (48 mo) under the co-ordination of E-zavod. It’s introducing nature based solutions to urban areas for mitigation of environmental pressures (air-pollution, urban heat etc.) It will run in parallel with the MISSION CE CLIMATE and provides opportunity for mutual learning and upscaling of innovative UPSURGE solutions through our project. UPSURGE also concentrate the high-end knowledge on NBS providing pool of expertise for the MISSION CE CLIMATE Advisory Team. (EN), EIT Climate-KIC – Future Cities of South-East Europe (EN) | The project is a multi-annual process aiming at establishing local multi-stakeholders teams in partner cities (like Sarajevo, Križevci, Skopje, Niš, Maribor) that are acting as local task force of transformation of cities to carbon-neutral and climate-resilient. Teams are assisted by experts coming from EIT Climate-KIC and its members. The City of Maribor is playing an active part in the project. Experiences from this process will be very beneficial at igniting Climate Missions in MISSION CE CLIMATE project. (EN), LIFE - Thriving Communities Energy Incubator (EN) | The project was submitted on January 2021 to LIFE call. If successful, project aims at setting-up a system of local incubators for supporting citizen-led energy projects in the area of South-east Europe (Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Greece). Local HUBs will be set-up by local stakeholders which can also be up-scaled to Climate Missions with the up-scaling activities of MISSION CE CLIMATE project. Two partners are participating in both proposals (TUKE, E-zavod). (EN), UNITED NATIONS MAKING CITIES RESILIENT 2030 Initiative (EN) | It is a global platform providing methods (3-stage roadmap to urban resilience) that are already tested in several communities and MISSION CE CLIMATE will use that platform (E-zavod is an expert member of the MCR 2030 community) at designing solution for communities. It also provides tool for transfer of solutions. (EN), 2020 EC Mission: A Climate Resilient Europe (EN) | Lead partner was communicating the MISSION CE CLIMATE proposal with the representatives of the EU Mission where it was agreed that the project and especially experiences of the communities involved can be presented at Mission Forum(s) organized each year and that they would welcome the communities to engage into the EU Mission 200 Climate Resilient communities process.. Contribution to wider strategies and policies:
- EuropeanGreenDeal Under the Green Deal package, the EU Adaptation Strategy was adopted in 2021, where EU should become climate resilient by 2050. It specifically defines local adaptation actions as key part and nature based solutions as the principal approach. MISSION CE CLIMATE is directly supporting these by enabling local communities for climate action and introducing NBS as key approach.
- TerritorialAgenda2030 Territorial agenda 2030 defines several development goals, among them “A Green Europe – Healthy environment” where it says that “We will respect the natural limits of Europe’s common livelihoods and increase the resilience of all places impacted by climate change«. MISSION CE CLIMATE is supporting this goal through increasing resilience to climate change in communities of Central Europe with strong involvement of citizens as active contributors.
- EUStrategyAlpineRegion EUSALP Action Group 8 is focused on risk governance, with a strong focus on climate adaptation. Two objectives are particularly in line with MISSION CE CLIMATE “Identification of good practice solutions in tackling challenges in natural hazard and climate change adaptation policy - promoting, developing and implementing local, regional and international pilot projects ..«. Our project is developing solutions (including pilots) adapted to the needs of communities. Some project partner countries/partners are located in EUSALP area (Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Germany) and will communicate and upscale project results in respective countries.
- EUStrategyDanubeRegion EUSDR Priority Area 5 – Environmental risks is targeting the effects of climate change in Danube area, where many fields will be addressed also in MISSION CE CLIMATE: water scarcity and droughts, water and flood management, data management, vulnerability assessments. Some project partner countries/partners are located in EUSDR area (Slovakia, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Germany) and will communicate and upscale project results in respective countries.
- Other 2020 EC Mission: A Climate Resilient Europe »Mission will: Prepare Europe
- to deal with climate disruptions, and assist all citizens, communities and
- regions in better understanding, preparing for and managing climate risks;
- Accelerate the transformation to a climate-resilient future, supporting 200
- European communities and regions in co-creating a vision, innovation
- pathways, and developing solutions– MISSION CE CLIMATE is fully in line with
