Investments, deliverables, policy contributions

(bullets are inserted automatically and may be incorrectly placed)

Infrastructure investments:

  • As a part of the prototype drone permits regarding environment and air transportation procedures will be agreed with the relevant authorities. As DIOL will last 4 years, the risk of not receiving the permits on time is not big. A U-Space permit for unmanned air space use will need to be requested for longer distances. Skeydrone and Brittany Aviation´s support will be sought for providing guidance in the process. - EUR 0.00 -
  • Normal building permits and environmental permits are needed. It is expected that they will received in good order and in time for implementing the investment. - EUR 0.00 -
  • Port´s physical/infrastructural reconfigurations to serve renewable energy developments´ storage capacity/security/surveillance purposes will require environmental permits. This will be obtained in 2024 with work start expected in 2025. SkeyDrone shall submit the application of this U Space airspace to the BCAA for the offshore drone operation tests from Oostende port after VIVES´s rik assessment in late 2023. - EUR 0.00 -
  • The application for permissions required by authorities will be filed at the start of the project. Due tothe modular and flexible containerized approach no extensive permits will be required for a large partof the assets. Take off/Landing for fixed wing drones can be conducted on grass strip. Templates andexperiences for drone operation permits (ConOPS/SORA) for demonstration flight in the German bightand offshore context are available. - EUR 0.00 -
  • No building permits required. - EUR 0.00 -

Contribution to wider strategies and policies:

  • Fully meeting the Esbjerg Declaration´s objectives will be a long term, extremely complex process involving multiple stakeholders. Although DIOL alone cannot realise the NS Green Power Plan of Europe, it will create some of the urgent needed conditions in key logistical hubs to be ready for the large scheme, by testing green solutions that guarantee that specifc seaports/airports can support developments in the race toward achieving 150 GW offshore wind power by 2050 and 20 GW green H2 by 2030.
  • DIOL aims at preparing the ground for the realisation of the North sea Green Power Plant of Europe. The objective of concretely and transnationally testing solutions in logistics hubs that support renewable energy developments meets the Grean Deal's aspiration of making the EU climate neutral by 2050.
  • By proposing sustainabity-oriented demonstrators in logistics hubs already serving offhore wind parks and future green energy islands and offshore projects, DIOL supports the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources.
  • By investigating best possible alternative fuel solutions for offhore crew transfer vessels and air cargo/crew transfers (e.g. electricty, bio-fuel. hybrid systems, green H2, cargo drones) to/from wind parks/energy islands, DIOL partner ports/airports address the AFID Directive's objective of setting up the right frameworks for developing available refuelling and recharging points for alternative fuel vehicles and vessels.
  • By piloting the value of updating Renewable Energy supporting facilities and introducing alternative fuels via seaports and airports DIOL addresses the Integrated Maritime Policy's objective of maximising the sustainable use of the seas. By bringing together logistical actors paving the way for the Esbjerg Declaration's Plan implementation, DIOL will also improve the coordination of RE activities affecting the North Sea basin.
