Description (EN):

Due to climate change, the shifts between cold and mild during winter will become more frequent, winds will most likely become stronger and flawy, and the rainfall will increase. In addition, air humidity will increase. The combination of increased wind and rain may cause extra exposure of moisture/humidity to buildings. NoBiCC wants to investigate the influence of this changes from Greenland with the arctic climate, to Island and Norway with costal climate and Sweden and Finland with inland climate in the north, because ambient conditions play an important role in the energy efficiency of buildings. The effect of changing ambient conditions on the surface of various building wall structures will be studied using wind behaviour simulations to identify which locations in different shape of buildings are the most probable targets to extra moisture load. The project will lead to the next generation buildings and architectural designs for climate smart future.

Actual Achievements (EN):

The NoBiCC project has started and is going as planned for the first reporting period. (Period 1) It is always a lot of activities going on in the start of the project. UiT attended the NPA Lead partner seminar in November 2023 and did preparations for the project startup. There was some preparation and adjustments to the application together with the NPA secretariate before getting the Grant agreement. In February we hosted the Kick-Off meeting at UiT Campus Narvik. This was a 2-day event with well spent hours on project planning, communications, economy and reporting with presentations and discussions from all WP’s done by the responsible partner. In addition to a dinner in the afternoon, we had a technical tour of the new hospital building in Narvik (open 20th of November 2024), with a focus primarily on buildings and technical installations. All partners participated and for the ones not able to travel, there was put up a Teams link so as many as possible could participate during the sessions. All partners have started their work in their WP’s, and the first output is also published. We have regular monthly meetings on Teams where all partners participate, and we address progress, deliverables, planning and communication and dissemination. We have planned for one physical meeting with each partner during the project period. The work in all WP’s has been started and some of the tasks like WP3.1 have also completed the installation of field measurement equipment already collecting data. We have also during the 1 period prepared the Consortium agreement, assigned financial manager and communication manager. All partners have assigned their financial contact for reporting. We have also started to involve the associated partners to involve them in our work and dissemination. In the next partner meeting planned in Island the several industry actors will be invited.

EuropeanGreenDeal Sustainable, robust buildings use environmentally friendly “green” materials, they last for longer time, hence they give a smaller environmental footprint and use less energy. This is one of the main reasons of implementing this project. The solutions and results from this project will contribute to reducing energy demand, increasing circularity, prolonging life time of buildings. Upscaled, the impact on climate will be positive and provide a greener building sector.
