Project key outputs were: 1) the BLUEfasma Consolidated knowledge base to systematize best practices, tools, solutions and methods in fishing/aquaculture; 2) the Circular Economy readiness index - circularity self-assessment tool, demonstrated in BLUEfasma online platform; used as a unified MED measure of SMEs readiness and willingness to invest in CE and act as a decision support tool. - The AZA Sardegna project pertained to the Sardinian territorial sea waters, lagoons, and lakes. This project was aimed at identifying the environmental, social and economic conditions that allow the development of sustainable aquaculture, guaranteeing the protection of the environment, and the reduction of potential conflicts between different uses, facilitating synergies and co-uses.
- The planning was based on the use of scientific, environmental, legal, technical and socio-economic evidence, in order to guarantee the conservation and protection of the environment and territories, the maintenance of a good ecological status and the prevention of habitat and ecosystem degradation. An AZA instrument was developed that first assessed the suitability of the three aquatic ecosystems for aquaculture. The methodological framework was developed applying a multidisciplinary approach, considering for example oceanographic analyses, bio-physiological models, and satellite data, to assess the suitability of aquatic ecosystems for aquaculture activities. The suitability for aquaculture was estimated and subsequently a species-specific suitability index was calculated for different species.

- (FR), ARGOS – ShARed Governance of Sustainable fisheries and aquaculture activities as leverage to protect marine resources in the Adriatic Sea | Programme: Interreg Italy-Croatia 2014-2020 | 2020 – 2023
- The main objective of this strategic project is to promote and apply a joint integrated approach in the protection of marine resources and the preservation of the quality of the Adriatic Sea through institutional and operational activities aimed at reducing the direct and indirect human impact on fisheries and aquaculture.
- The project aims to: a) establish a common coordinated framework and strengthen the institutional dialogue for a sustainable and shared management of Adriatic marine resources, putting together Adriatic Institutions dealing in fisheries and aquaculture and Argos' partners through the Adriatic Advisory Committee (AAC); b) protect Adriatic fishing resources according to the decisional processes shared with the best available “know-how”; c) improve fishing techniques oriented toward environmental sustainability and circular economy.
- Project final outputs are:
- 1. Maritime Spatial Planning studies to deepen the overlaps in the use of marine space
- 2. Assessment of interactions between environmental management and social-economic impacts
- 3. Standardization of existing data on Adriatic biological resources
- 4. Running of bio-economic models for stock assessments
- 5. Implementation of pilot actions
- 6. Definition of a cross border network to share project results and define the best practices for training operators towards environmental sustainability and the adoption of responsible practices in fisheries and aquaculture.
- Adriatic Advisory Council, as a process for governance, aim at defining common measures for the sustainable management of fisheries and aquaculture activities, in the framework of the protection of the marine Adriatic environment.

- The project aims to: a) establish a common coordinated framework and strengthen the institutional dialogue for a sustainable and shared management of Adriatic marine resources, putting together Adriatic Institutions dealing in fisheries and aquaculture and Argos' partners through the Adriatic Advisory Committee (AAC); b) protect Adriatic fishing resources according to the decisional processes shared with the best available “know-how”; c) improve fishing techniques oriented toward environmental sustainability and circular economy.

- In particular, the project established, curated and experimented a Responsible Research and Innovation platform involving societal actors working together during the whole research and innovation process for aligning better both the process and its outcomes, with the values, needs and expectations of European society, integrating citizens visions, needs and desires into science and innovation, promoting RRI with focus on marine issues and pressures that have important effects on the European societies. The project activities and outcomes defined this systematic approach in order to make it transferable and reproducible for any RRI thematic domain. The outcome was a clear improvement of the integration of society in science and innovation. The MARINA project followed this strategic line of “strengthening and facilitating” the capacity of the research and innovation to align and integrate the social needs through a suitable knowledge sharing platform and federating activities.

- The project had three specific objectives: experimentation with best practices, preparation of best practice protocols and adoption documents.
- The experimentation of best practices was implemented through the following actions:
- 1) monitoring and classification pilot actions in the whole area of cooperation to assess, by means of a specific questionnaire, which allows to understand the type and volume of waste produced and collected by fishing, aquaculture, leisure, the methods currently adopted in the ports for their treatment and disposal, the verification of the presence of areas intended for collection and storage;
- 2) four pilot actions for the management of different types of waste:
- - Pilot action on management/disposal of urban and special waste: characterization of waste, storage and disposal guidelines, establishment of ecological islands;

- - Strengthening cross-border mechanisms for the maintenance and recovery of biodiversity and ecosystem services in the Natura 2000 Alentejo-Algarve-Andalusia area; promoting and using ecological methodologies and aquaculture production systems appropriate to protected wetlands.
- - Evaluating these systems and methodologies to improve the conservation status of coastal areas, increase rehabilitated areas and their profitability and contribute to a more efficient management of these areas, with special emphasis on increasing knowledge and technology transfer.
- - Developing a key network of researchers from Portugal and Spain, with complementary skills, to improve strategic and economically sustainable production systems.

- (EN), TIMMOD - Promoting technology innovation in environmental monitoring and modelling for assessment of fish stock and non-fish resources | Programme: BLACK SEA BASIN 2014-2020 | 2020 – 2022
- TIMMOD project united the efforts of six Project Partners from five countries (Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Moldova and Georgia) in a multi-sectoral & multidisciplinary project-consortium: TIMMOD Innovation Network - sharing the common understanding that the Technological Upgrade is the key to “improve joint environmental monitoring”.
- The project addressed the improvement of Black Sea environmental monitoring and modeling of fish stock and non-fish resources by facilitating technology innovation. TIMMOD utilized new tools, approaches and technology to assist implementation of EU policies and programmes.
- The overall project objective was to improve the availability and quality of data, the cooperation in sharing of data for water quality, biodiversity statistics, assessment of fish and non-fish living resources of the Black Sea - in line with the EU’s Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), Data Collection Framework (DCF), Blue Growth Strategy, Black Sea Convention on Environmental Protection and other EU and regional policies and conventions.

- TIMMOD project united the efforts of six Project Partners from five countries (Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Moldova and Georgia) in a multi-sectoral & multidisciplinary project-consortium: TIMMOD Innovation Network - sharing the common understanding that the Technological Upgrade is the key to “improve joint environmental monitoring”.
- The project addressed the improvement of Black Sea environmental monitoring and modeling of fish stock and non-fish resources by facilitating technology innovation. TIMMOD utilized new tools, approaches and technology to assist implementation of EU policies and programmes.
- The overall project objective was to improve the availability and quality of data, the cooperation in sharing of data for water quality, biodiversity statistics, assessment of fish and non-fish living resources of the Black Sea - in line with the EU’s Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), Data Collection Framework (DCF), Blue Growth Strategy, Black Sea Convention on Environmental Protection and other EU and regional policies and conventions.
- (FR) | Project Partner IFR was involved (as Lead Beneficiary) in TIMMOD project and will share their know-how and experience on collection and sharing of reliable and compatible data environmental data for water quality parameters, fish and non-fish living resources. - The ARIEL (2018-2020) project led to significant milestones towards innovation speed-up and uptake in small-scale fisheries and aquaculture sectors, outlining trajectories of development for future cooperation initiatives. ARIEL PLUS (2022) main objective was to maximize the transferability and durability of the ARIEL project main outcomes towards small-scale fisheries and aquaculture stakeholders within and beyond the Adriatic and Ionian area, leveraging future initiatives and investments for smart and sustainable blue growth of coastal communities. The project made the best use of the ARIEL approach, tactics and tools, capitalizing and widening the ARIEL knowledge network and the cooperation between local/regional/national public authorities, research bodies, small-scale fisheries and aquaculture socio-economic operators. Built on a deep understanding of these two sectors challenges at regional and ADRION level as well as on a set of policy and technical recommendations delivered in the previous project, ARIEL PLUS:
- - boosted the transnational dimension of ARIEL results and knowledge by means of raising awareness activities and events for beneficiaries and stakeholders of small-scale fisheries and aquaculture sectors at local and Country level;

As a result, fishing appeal to young people is sharply decreasing. Yet, fishing is still a key Mediterranean economic sector with a high - though underexploited - commercial potential including diversification and integration with other sectors such as fishing tourism, environmental marine services, fishery heritage and food-chain innovation. Unfortunately, the industry remains too fragmented, MSMEs are not enough interconnected and the public authorities are not proving capable to provide the needed enabling environment.
- FISH MED NET addresses these enduring drawbacks. The project trains fisheries MSMEs in increasing their diversification and integration potential and favoring the development of new products and services. New business alliances will fill the integration gap among MSMEs by fostering common business models and marketing activities. Finally, the project enhances public authorities’ capacities to encourage both sustainable and successful development of the fishing sector.
- FISH MED NET supports the diversification and integration of the fisheries industry, the enhancement of the innovation processes and increased visibility on global markets which will lead to higher sector profitability, new jobs and improved working conditions for fishermen. As a result, the whole sector will recover some attractiveness to young people and will be more connected to the rest of the local economy, in view of promoting an integrated and sustainable blue economy.

Blue Growth Community enhanced the dissemination and transferability of modular projects results to ensure stronger, wider and deeper capitalisation, mainstreaming and strategic liaising processes aimed at external multilevel stakeholders, allowing a better take-on of technical modular projects results into policy-making at a multi-level governance scale, and benefitting the further development of the blue economy and entrepreneurship notably for SMEs.

The HP Green Growth acted as a community of projects promoting a green and circular economy in the MED area by fostering innovation through an integrated and territorial based cooperation approach. The HP Green Growth built upon achievements of the first phase HP SYNGGI and further maximised the transnational replicability and capitalization potential of results. It involved the Quadruple helix actors in workshops and training and matchmaking sessions to share their best practices in the field of green growth and circular economy and to promote the effective transfer of concrete results into regional/national policies. The expected outcomes facilitated the creation of multi-stakeholders shared actions plans to highlight new opportunities and to unlock market potentials. Partners and territories that represent the maximum geographical coverage, including territories from the southern shore of the MED, as well as relevant initiatives, were engaged on effective political leverage for demand driven and territorial evidence-based policy change on green growth thematic coherent with the EU policy framework. The project entered as a member of the Coordination Group of the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform, through the Lead Partner of the Community, and it was labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean in 2019.
