Go2Recycling is a cooperation between 5 institutions and organizations from 4 countries, that combine their sources with aim to tackle one of the most important global environmental issue: pollution, including plastic pollution, rising dramatically as a result of the insufficient training, knowledge and habits, lack of planning and infrastructure for effective waste management /WM/ and the most important lack of responsible behaviour and environmental consciousness in the community. The partners are cooperating for the ensuring decreasing of the all kind of pollution including marine and river litter by development of sustainable WM practices in the BSB and responding to the most common challenges in this domain:- Insufficient infrastructure: local municipalities, especially from the Non-EU countries lack the necessary infrastructure for waste management, such as waste sorting and composting facilities, and separate collection centers.-Lack of public participation: Effective WM requires the participation of the public, including households, businesses, and other organizations. However, many local institutions struggle to engage the public and promote separating the waste at source, reducing, recycling and reusing /3R/ of the waste by the citizens. There is missing any sustainable behaviour development methods or incentives that could train and stimulate the local people to separate and to master the principles of the 3R. -Inadequate policy and regulations: especially in TR local policy makers are at the beginning of their planning, many local municipalities lack adequate policies and regulations to support sustainable WM. This result in inadequate waste management infrastructure and services, and inadequate enforcement of waste management plans /WMP/. There is certain need from sustainable WMPs especially in TR.- Lack of opportunities and resources for exchange of knowledge and good practices between neighbour countries in the BSB and especially between EU and Non-EU countries: different countries have different approaches to waste management, and there may be valuable insights and techniques that can be learned from each other. Without opportunities for exchange, both regions are missing out on innovative solutions that could improve waste management. The overall project objective is: Establishing sustainable cross-border partnership for reducing of the landfill waste and pollution in the BSB through encouraging separating, collecting, 3R the household waste, especially in the settlements located near to the vital biological areas as wetlands, lagoons and biosphere parks through establishing needful infrastructure for the sustainable collecting of the waste, planning and sustainable training methods that increasing public awareness and knowledge about recycling and green future. The project promotes the waste management models, replicable throughout the BSB and Europe, to ensure transition to the sustainable recycling practices, ensure sustainable waste management and diversion of the waste from the landfills in the BSB. At the same time the project puts the basis for the sustainable litter reduction including marine and river litter reduction practices, collecting and recycling in the target areas including at the same time urban areas and river basins, protected areas and wetlands. The project presents good cooperation and dialogue between the local authorities, unions, educational institutions, local stakeholders and interested groups in the target areas combining their efforts for the establishing stable mechanisms for reducing of the pollution in the BSB. The project will lead to the increasing the infrastructural, planning and technical capacity of the local waste collection service providers and establishing sustainable training method for realization of joint solutions for behaviour changing, public awareness and training of the local target groups: households and school children. Outputs: infrastructural and technical: benefiting from the European knowledge and expertise and developed infrastructure and technical tools for efficiently waste collection in BSB. Promoting 3-R methods and changing behaviours of the local people in separating at source: 5 organizations cooperating, one 3-R and collection center in Kesan, one training center in Sozopol established, that will provide training and expertise, demonstration and knowledge about recycling and climate adaptation to the community. Institutional outputs: increased planning capacity and shared good waste management practices: 1 Zero Waste Plan and 1 regional strategy for 3-R practices elaborated.- Public: online and physically trainings, study visits, joint international clean-up campaigns and initiatives for children and citizens made. The approach used in the project is based on the wide cooperation for exchange of expertise, development collection and separation infrastructure, inclusion of the local communities and joint capacity building.

Actual Achievements (EN):

This report including activities made by the all project partners in the first reporting period. The first implementation period was based mainly on ensuring smooth management and coordination, stable communication between the partners and defining properly management plan with the expected results and indicators to be achieved. LP elaborated project plan and provided joint project document sharing platform in Google Drive to all partners. All partners assigned project team members: managers, coordinators and financial manager and accountants. Partners realized jointly three online team meetings and one additional only between the LP and the new assigned staff members of PP2. LP has successfully organized kick - off meeting with participating of all partners /only PP3 attended online/. The kick off meeting was realized on the dates 17-18-19 December 2024 in Kesan, Türkiye. All partners start to work jointly under Act. 1.1 and have followed a prepared joint methodology for work and joint analyses of the current situation in good waste management practices in the four target areas. The methodology was presented to the partners during 3rd online team meeting by the LP and agreed by all partners. Each partner worked on the analyses of the current situation with the waste management policy in their country and at local level, including research about the good waste management practices in Europe. The prepared draft reports were presented during the online team meeting in November 2024. The final versions of the reports were presented by the project team members during the kick off meeting in Kesan. Publications in the local media were done for the informing general public about the start of the project and about the implementing kick-off meeting in Kesan, Türkiye by the LP and all partners made some publications for the start of the project on their web sites. PP2 assigned a project Communication Manager who worked on the joint visualization of the project. The LP supports the work of the PP2 for properly communication of the project and jointly with other partners agreed for the project logo design, prepared by the communication manager. Also, the Project's Communication Strategy was prepared by the communication manager. Two online team meetings were held in January and March to conduct general planning and review the project implementation plan with the participation of all project partners. The partners are managing the project with effective coordination and communication, discussing necessary modifications and jointly identifying solutions to management-related challenges. An addendum was prepared by the LP and one joint small modification request by all partners. The PP2 participated at the online meeting about the reporting process organized by JS. Act. 1.1. All project partners have successfully finalized the first activity by preparing a joint guide for the local policymakers on the successful 3R practices. The guide preparation activity was coordinated by the LP with the review and comments of the other partners and and presented to the local stakeholders during the launching press conferences organized in each country by the relevant partner. Promotional materials have been prepared: roll-up, notebooks, pens, Leaflets were shared with the printed guide by the partners in their native languages. Act 1.2. The project partners has established a joint group of trainers in the BSB consisting from 4 trainers from 4 target countries. They are working on the elaboration of a joint training program 'Waste Management Planning’ Training program and realized joint online meetings. The LP ensured to the partners a templates such as General information for training program and template of the call for trainees. The partners has launched a call for the interested groups to participate at this training organized in the scope of the project. The joint training program with 7 modules have been agreed by the trainers during the online meeting on 08/04/2025. The LP ensured one joint working area to the trainers group and all of them have an access to the same documents and are working at the same time jointly on the training documents. Act 1.3. The project partners are working on the investment activities in their countries. LP is working on the technical documentation of the construction works for establishing a stationary collecting center for 11 types of recyclable waste in Kesan: 1st Class waste collection center. The tender procedure will be launched in the 3rd reporting period. The PP5 also will launch its tender procedure for delivery of mobile separate waste collection center in Uzunkopru. The Pp2 - is proceeded with modification of the needed machine. PP3 started implementation of the activity, as planned, with the first step - preparation of technical design project and other necessary documentation according to our national legislation for the repair of the existing building, located in a plot of land with identifier 81178.502.484 on the territory of the town of Chernomorets, Municipality of Sozopol, where the Centre for Science and Creativity will be established. PP4 began market research to procure essential equipment for the Recycling Promotion Center in Kutaisi, Georgia, including a baling press machine and a 3D printer. Act 1.4. The coordinator of this activity is PP4 and the partner is working supported by the other project partners on the elastration of the training guide on Plastic recycling and coloring book. The PP4 is working on organization fo the 4 day Training for Trainers in Kutaisi that will be done on 7-10 July 2025. The other partners are currently working on the translation of the guide and the coloring book. At the same time, all partners have published the open call for trainers on their websites and social media channels to invite interested individuals to register. The Lead Partner and PP5 have also sent official letters to the local educational directorates, providing information about the project, its objectives, and the opportunity for teachers to participate in the trainings and be a part from the awareness-raising activities in each target area. Communication: All partners printed 500 leaflets, 2 roll-ups, 50 Guides, 100 notebooks and prepared 100 pens for the project events. First newsletter was prepared in English and will be translated and shared with the stakeholders during the 3rd period. Publications in the local media after the launching press conferences have been done by LP and PP5 and PP3 made a radio announcement - an interview was published on the Bulgarian National Radio. PP2 - communication expert has developed with the partners' support the project web site: www.bsbgo2recycling.com Management: The LP organized online team meetings and ensured coordination of the project by ensuring daily communication of the partners trough Whatsapp phone group of the project partners. All partners are working in good coordination and communication. Act 1.1. Under this activity the PP2 prepared its promotional materials. Act 1.2. The partners have selected an experts from their country, who is a part from the joint group of trainers in the BSB consisting from 4 trainers from 4 target countries. The trainers worked on the elaboration of the common ‘Waste Management Planning’ Training program and realized joint online meetings. The partners made an open call to the interested experts who want to be a part from the capacity building training and collected registrations. Based on this and developed joint training by the experts selected by the partner, the training program in Türkiye was realized between the dates: 09.05.2025 - 03.06.2025 for total 8 days trainings with the Turkish selected expert. The trainings were realized online by the LP and PP5. PP2 didnt implement the training and will do it in the next reporting period. PP3 - A total number of 19 stakeholders participated in the lectures. Among them there were representatives of the local authorities in the region of Bourgas, NGOs, schools, universities and the general public. The online sessions were held in the period 02 - 06 June 2025. Very positive feedback was shared after the end of the training sessions. PP4 - The training sessions on “Waste Management Planning Capacity Building” were conducted online over five days, from June 16–20, 2025. The sixth day was dedicated to a site visit to the Kutaisi Composting Center, established within the project BSB457 Waste Free Rivers for a Clean Black Sea. During the visit, participants had the opportunity to learn about the centralized method of composting implemented at the municipal/city level. Act 1.3. The LP is launched its tender procedure for construction works for establishing a stationary collecting center for 11 types of recyclable waste in Kesan: 1st Class waste collection center on 15/09/2025. PP2 implemented a public procurement for press container – the contract was signed on 16 of July and the estimate for the delivery is about 3 months since the first payment. The press container will be received in the 4th period of implementation and will increase the capacity of Galati Municipality to decrease the waste quantity in the region. PP3 Technical specification and documentation for public procurement procedure for works were prepared by the PP3 team. The tender procedure was launched on 04.07.2025. A contract was signed on 05.09.2025 with the selected contractor "EMT Stroi" Ltd. Construction works were started on 10.09.2025 in Sozopol, BG. Act 1.4. The training for trainers was prepared and conducted in Kutaisi, GE with participation of trainers from four countries - three by country. The 4-day training activities, held on July 7–10, 2025, gathered both trainers and partner staff representatives. In total, 26 project partner representatives participated. In addition, stakeholder representatives—including school teachers and pupils, university professors, and laboratory staff— joined the sessions on the second and third days. Altogether, around 50 people were involved in the four-day training. The partners made an open call for the trainers and three trainers were selected selected from each target area. Guideline on plastic waste and of the Coloring book were prepared by the PP4 and t6ranslated and printed by each partner in their national language. PP4 has already purchased containers for separation in schools and households. Specifically, 150 bins for households, along with 20 containers (1100 L) and 25 bins (240 L) for schools. Communication: The partners translated and shared the first joint project newsletter online.

Zero Waste National Project of Türkiye (EN) | The Go2Recycling project has a strong synergy with the National Zero Waste Project and Regulations in Türkiye. In the frame of the project the 1st class collection center in Kesan and 3 other mobile collection centers will be established, that actually will be a part from the Zero waste system in municipalities and will strongly contribute to the achievement of the zero waste aims of the country. Also, in the frame of the project an International Zero Waste day on March 30 will be specially promoted and special public awareness campaigns and international clean -up activities will be done. (EN), Zero Pollution Action Plan of EU (EN) | The project supports and is in line with the zero pollution vision of the EU for 2050: a Healthy Planet for All and its targets for 2023, especially by 50% plastic litter at sea and by 30% microplastics released into the environment; and significantly total waste generation and by 50% residual municipal waste.
The project will support implementation of the Zero Pollution Action Plan by ensuring the needful collection infrastructure in the Turkish side of the project, establishing innovative method – training center for establishing sustainable green behaviours of the citizens and implementation of massive public awareness campaigns and increasing planning and management capacity of the local policy makers. (EN), Zero Waste Europe Movement (EN) | The project will benefit from the lessons learnt and good practices shared between the members of the Zero Waste Europe Movement. Also, the Go2Recycling project will benefit from the campaigns supported and initiated by the movement. The ZWE network is a space for growth, inspiration and innovation, in which members work together in a united, strong voice to scale up positive change in Europe. The lessons learned in this movement and networking will be used by the current project partners in their efforts for stimulating separation and especially 3-R practices and principles in the Black Sea Basin. SeaBasinStrategyBlackSea The joint action will support achieving of the goal aiming generate sustainable growth in coastal regions, namely ensuring healthy marine and coastal ecosystems.
The project is addressing transboundary environmental challenges, such as plastic marine litter and for sure will support achieving the objectives of the CMA for improvement marine environmental protection. Developed waste collection centers, re-equpted recycling centers and established innovative training center works in the target areas for sure will decrease especially the rate of the plastic waste in the region and the marine litter with microplastics, by properly collection, disposal of the waste and its recycling. The Action in fully in line with the Priority 2: Address marine pollution and plastic litter and planned actions as: Raise awareness among public authorities and citizens on marine environmental issues and the impact of human activities on marine ecosystem, support waste reduction actions.
EUStrategyDanubeRegion Romania and Bulgaria countries are taking part in the EUSDR and the project is relating to one of the main challenges of the Danube region: environmental threats (water pollution, floods, climate change) and its Priority areas: 4- Water Quality - ACTION 1: HAZARDOUS & EMERGING SUBSTANCES: Promote monitoring, prevention and reduction of water pollution deriving from hazardous and emerging substances (EU priority substances and watch list candidates as well as Danube basin specific pollutants candidates and others e.g. micro plastics-plastics, pharmaceuticals, PFOS), ACTION 7: TOOLS: Enhance cooperation, increase and exchange knowledge and secure financing to water quality measures in the Danube Region;
PA 6 Biodiversity and Landscapes, Quality of Air and Soils - ACTION 2: Build capacities of national and local authorities, non-governmental organisations, expert and scientific community in the environment related matters, ACTION 7: Enhance and/or maintain soil-related ecosystem services;

Planned project cooperation and joint actions will support all above mentioned actions and Priority areas.
The Romanian and Bulgarian partners will transfer their expertise and knowledge, will show their good practices in waste management and planning to the other participating countries and will take a measures for the development of sustainable green behaviours of the citizens for decreasing the pollution in the basin.
EUStrategyAdriaticIonianRegion The current project partnership structure is not including Adriatic-Ionian countries that are a members of the EUSAIR, but for sure the project actions will indirectly contribute for the achieving of the goals of the strategy, as the follow: Pillar 3: Environmental Quality. The project target area in Türkiye covers territory bordering with Greece that is a member of the EUSAIR and the waste reduction and recycling efforts of the project will for sure affect positively the Meric / Evros River Basin and the coastal marine quality of the Aegean sea. For sure the project activities will ensure this international river basin to be protected by the micro plastics’ pollution. The established collecting infrastructure – by the stationary and mobile collection centers and made clean –up activities in the Meriç / Evros basin will directly lead to the improving of the environmental quality in the Black sea Basing and Adriatic and Ionian region.
Other The project aims and objectives contributes to the objectives of the European Green Deal: by ensuring providing of fresh air, clean water, healthy soil and biodiversity and longer lasting products that can be repaired, recycled and re-used. All project activities are following the same objective: transform the EU into a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy. The established collection and training centers will promote climate change adaptation practices, clean and efficient energy, sustainability of the natural resources and their importance, protection of biodiversity and ecosystems with right behaviors for decreasing of our waste and their properly separation, recycling and reusing. The project will ensure at the same time the important investment in the local municipalities for the regional development and to deliver the European Green Deal.
Also, the project will contribute directly to the Black Sea Knowledge Bridge Pillar of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for the Black Sea (SRIA) and its main goal 1: Address the main Black Sea challenges on eutrophication, deoxygenation, invasive species, emerging pollutants, litter.
Also the current project will contribute to the EU Plastics Strategy that is a key element of Europe’s transition towards a carbon neutral and circular economy.
