Summary
Project acronym: WATERWISE
Project ID: ASP0500341
Project start date: 2024-09-01
Project end date: 2027-08-31
Project status:
ongoingRelevant linked projects:
- Research chair «Water Resources of the Future» 2019-2022, Funded by Rennes Métropole
- (EN) | The project, funded by the municipality of Rennes (F) and led by Clément Roques (UniNE), aimed at developing numerical models to assess the evolution of water resources at regional level. By working with stakeholders, the project provided guidance for defining regional policies toward sustainable management practices. WATERWISE will benefit from the “Water Resources of the Future” methodology for socio-hydrological modelling and science-policy buildup. (EN), WATERLINE 2021-2023, Funded by CHIST-ERA consortium (EU Horizon Europe)
- (EN) | WATERLINE aims at improving hydrological models efficiency and robustness by integration of variables covering different spatial and temporal scales. With UniNE being a partner of this project, WATERWISE will directly benefit from the main developments. WATERLINE PPs will be invited to the kick off meeting for providing feedback on the project implementation and success and defining future collaboration. (EN), ADO 2019-2022, Interreg Alpine Space Programme 2014-2020
- (EN) | The Alpine Drought Observatory, aiming at defining common strategies to address the increasing water scarcity that concerns the Alps and the lowland areas that receive Alpine water, established a drought observatory based on combined meteorological information and hydrological data. WATERWISE will capitalise on the ADO approach for setting the data-space necessary to co-construct the toolbox for the sustainable management of mountain HW. (EN), ROCK-ME 2022-2025, Euregio GECT Research Fund
- (EN) | ROCK-ME aims at estimating origin, export and ecological effects of trace elements in streams of Alpine HW catchments with contrasting influence by permafrost and glacier thawing, which are used as a proxy of future Alpine deglaciation stages. The datasets of ROCK-ME and related local survey networks will flow into WATERWISE and will help setting the protocols for monitoring the chemical and biological quality of Alpine HW. (EN), RESERVAQUA 2019-2023, INTERREG V-A Italy - Switzerland Programme 2014 - 2020 (EN) | RESERVAQUA addressed the increasing threats on Alpine water resources posed by climate change and by quality deterioration due to the demographic increase and human activities. WATERWISE will capitalise on the project’s scientific and communication approach to develop an integrated management strategy to improve sustainable use and qualitative protection of the Alpine HW resource. (EN), RADMOGG 2023-2026, Swiss National Science Foundation
- (EN) | RADMOGG develops and applies novel geophysical and numerical methods for the evaluation of current and future groundwater processes in Alpine HW catchments, and of their contributions to the hydrological cycle. Hydrological, geophysical and geochemical measurements, as well as numerical models carried out and developed in the Réchy (CH) catchment during the project will flow into WATERWISE. (EN), Blue Transition 2022-2026, Funded by Interreg North Sea Region
- (EN) | The project targets a systemic change by integrating water and soil management in times of climate change. It aims at balancing activities in urban, agricultural or natural areas, considering a transition in land-use and fostering political structures and governance. The LPs will be invited to the kick-off meeting in order to frame how WATERWISE could capitalise on their methodology, specifically for considering the relationships between climate adaptation and water management. (EN), Natur'Adapt 2018-2023, Funded by the LIFE Programme of EU
- (EN) | Natur'Adapt developed a method for the adaptation of EU Protected Area management to climate change. WATERWISE, responding to the need for more accurate HW vulnerability assessments, represents the following step towards climate resilience for Alpine public administrations. It capitalises on Natur’Adapt success by designing a toolbox based on a network of pilot-areas, which will guarantee a large-scale adoption of the project results. (EN), ALPIMED-Integrated Territorial Plan 2019-2022, Interreg France-Italia ALCOTRA
- (EN) | The PITER ALPIMEND strategy was built around numerous French and Italian institutional partners, consular bodies and protected area managers to combine their expertise for the benefit of territorial sustainable tourism development, digital innovation promotion and climate change mitigation in a geographically very vulnerable area. WATERWISE will capitalise on the project outputs in the development of the digital tool for tackling water scarcity at the scale of vulnerable Alpine regions. (EN), BEYONDSNOW 2022-2025, Interreg Alpine Space Programme 2020-2027
- (EN) | BEYONDSNOW aims at increasing the socio-ecological resilience of mid altitude winter tourism stations in -the context of decreasing snow precipitation, through the identification of realistic transition processes and solutions for a sustainable development. WATERWISE will capitalise on this project’s approach and its adapting solutions by inviting its LP to participate in the workshops with challenge owners and stakeholders. (EN), KaraWAT 2021-2022, Interreg Slovenia-Austria 2014-2020
- (EN) |
- The main KaraWAT (Strategy for the Sustainable Management of Water Resources in the Karawanken-Karavanke UNESCO Global Geopark) result are a trilingual interactive web-viewer of the Karawanken Geopark which combines official geospatial data from SI and A in one site, and a strategy for water management in 14 municipalities was established, WATERWISE capitalises on KaraWAT for developing transboundary, shared HW management solutions that will ensure the long-life of the project outcomes.
- (EN), SmartCommUnity 2022-2025, Interreg Alpine Space Programme 2020-2027
- (EN) | SmartCommUnity, building on the SmartVillage concept, aims at facilitating the capacity building of non-urban Alpine areas, promoting digital solutions and interactive digital tools to foster the "smart transition" towards sustainable Alpine areas. WATERWISE will contribute to the SmartCommUnity, and the related EUSALP AG5 Workplan 2022-25, by presenting at their meeting the project web-based platform and the related dissemination and training content.
