In the vibrant and multifaceted Adriatic-Ionian Region, cities face a common challenge: the urgent need for shift to sustainable and resource - efficient mobility by updating their mobility plans following the recent EU regulations and by implementing on-the-ground optimal tailor-made interventions. Harnessing urban mobility ecosystems (local participation) and uniting them into a transnational cooperation (transnational experience exchange) can bring added value in this endeavour. Tackling this challenge head-on, the TERRAIN project brings together an ambitious partnership representing a right mix (differentiations in population, size, economy, development levels) of ERDF – Ioannina, GR; Bologna, IT; Ljubljana, SI; Zagreb, HR - and IPA cities – Sarajevo, BA; Berane, ME; Pancevo, RS; Skopje, MK; Durres AL - for engaging them in an intense mentor – mentee approach for upgrading sustainable urban mobility. Α shared and empowering source of inspiration for the cooperation in TERRAIN is that the 4 ERDF cities represented are part of EU’s Mission of ‘100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030’. Having as an ultimate goal to widen the effect of carbon-free mobility, TERRAIN project is engaging ADRION IPA cities in an intense twinning programme with the 4 ERDF cities. Experience donation is placed in the centre of the peer-learning goal of TERRAIN; - ERDF TERRAIN cities are exchanging progress on mobility interventions supporting shift to sustainable, net-zero transport with a scope to improve their policy instruments and support the mobility related action plans - IPA TERRAIN cities bring in the table challenges they face and co-identify solutions with the rest partners - EU TERRAIN cities, taking mentor’s role, support IPA cities - mentees, in selecting and pilot testing measures that have been pre-assessed by the established TERRAIN mobility living labs (main innovation for the area). The overall objective of TERRAIN is clear: to revolutionize mobility and create a greener future. By implementing innovative mobility solutions, the project aims to make a lasting change in the current transportation paradigm, addressing pressing issues like traffic congestion, air pollution, limited urban green spaces, uncontrolled touristic flows, low participatory mobility planning levels, limited interface among stakeholders and mobility users (citizens and citizens). The project will establish/continue the legacy of 9 self-sustained Living Labs (LLs) in each participating city, acting as real-world testing grounds for innovative mobility solutions. TERRAIN delivers transformative outputs: a pioneering TERRAIN Excellence Hub (closely cooperating partners) and 9 insightful TERRAIN pilots (one per TERRAIN case) co-developed within Living Labs. These outputs empower urban functional areas, drive innovation, and pave the way for sustainable mobility across the Adriatic-Ionian (AI) Region. A transnational approach lies at the heart of TERRAIN's methodology. By bringing together cities from diverse territories covering almost the whole AI Region, each with their unique characteristics, the project taps into the power of collaboration and cross-pollination of ideas. This transnational perspective allows for a deeper understanding of mobility issues, promotes the sharing of best practices, and ensures that solutions are tailored to specific urban contexts. What sets TERRAIN apart is its commitment to innovation and its pioneering spirit. The project takes a bold and forward-thinking approach, leveraging emerging technologies, smart solutions, and data-driven planning to revolutionize the way we move; TERRAIN LP, being mobility expert from the research area, supports the whole partnership at an horizontal level giving its expertise to sustainable mobility co-planning while 4 mobility sub-cluster mentors are nominated based on their expertise; - No1: Smart and Digital Mobility (PP4 representing Ljubljana) - No2: Shared and Active Mobility Solutions (PP6 representing Zagreb) - No3: Integrated Public Transport and Multi-modal Solutions (PP5, Municipality of Bologna) - No4: Electromobility Transition (PP8, Municipality of Ioannina). The above 4 sub-clusters of mobility interventions reflect key areas where smart sustainable mobility practices can be further developed and implemented. In a world where sustainable mobility is no longer a choice but a necessity, TERRAIN stands as a beacon of light and progress. Through collaboration, innovation, and a transnational perspective, this project aims to reshape the transportation landscape of the Adriatic-Ionian Region. It is a collective effort to build a future where mobility is sustainable, cities thrive, and our planet flourishes. It's time for change & TERRAIN can show the way!

Actual Achievements (EN):

During the first six months of the TERRAIN project, significant progress was made in laying a solid foundation for collaboration and impact. Coordinated by CERTH/HIT, the partnership successfully launched key activities and established a well-structured management and implementation framework, in line with the approved timeline. One of the earliest milestones was the organization of the Kick-Off Meeting in Thessaloniki on 12–13 November 2024, where all project partners (with PP4 participating online) and a representative from the Interreg IPA ADRION Joint Secretariat gathered to align on goals, timelines, and methodologies. All activities progressed well, and deliverables began to take shape within the expected timeframe: D.1.1.1 TERRAIN Needs and Vision – PP6, in close cooperation with the LP, developed the template for this deliverable. Partners were asked to contribute their sections on current mobility status and vision. Input was received from all partners within the reporting period, except for PP8 and PP10, who had not yet finalized arrangements with external contributors. PP6 began analyzing the collected input. D.1.2.1 TERRAIN LLs and Network Establishment Process – The LP provided an early draft of this deliverable to support the development of the nine TERRAIN Living Labs (LLs). Input from the initial LL meetings was included, and the deliverable remains open to integrate feedback from the remaining three meetings. In the framework of this delivarable, while feeding Output No1, in total 34 MoUs were signed with local stakeholdres supporting the respective TERRAIN cases. Surveys with stakeholders and citizens took also part feeding also D.1.1.1. D.1.2.3 EUSAIR and ADRION Programme Events Participation – The LP represented TERRAIN at the Bled LP Seminar in October 2024. D.2.1.1 TERRAIN Good Practices for Net-Zero Transport Interventions – The LP coordinated the collection of good practices across thematic clusters. TERRAIN mentors (LP, PP4, PP5, PP6) contributed inputs on co-planning, digital mobility, public transport and intermodal solutions, and active mobility. Input from the electromobility mentor (PP8) is still pending due to the absence of an external expert. D.2.3.2 LLs Coordination E-Meetings – The first coordination meeting, co-organized by PP5 and the LP, was held on 1 December 2024. It aimed to guide partners in implementing their first LLs to begin feeding into TERRAIN’s broader activities, including the update or development of SUMPs and pilot implementations. D.2.3.3 Physical LL Meetings – First-round LL meetings were conducted by all TERRAIN partners within the reporting period, with the exception of PP8. Horizontal managerial and communication activities were carried out as planned. These included daily coordination, preparation for upcoming meetings and study visits, and technical guidance by the LP, as well as dissemination activities led by PP5—such as website updates, social media engagement, poster publication, news uploads, and promotion of local actions. Although some deviations in spending occurred among the majority of partners due to time-consuming internal start-up procedures, and specific delays were noted in the technical implementation by PP8 and partially by PP10, these issues have not significantly affected the overall flow of project activities.

Inter-Connect and Inter-Connect PLUS ADRION projects (& respective thematic cluster experience and network) (EN) | Although Inter-Connect started with a view to establish intermodality at ADRION level, it was proven that in order to support transnational interconnectivity and intermodality, local sustainable mobility setting is necessary. TERRAIN will start from and further build on Inter-Connect Roadmap (and the respective Roadmap of the anyADRIONcity developed in the framework of Thematic Cluster on Urban and Interurban Low Carbon Mobility for Passengers that was led and coordinated by CERTH, TERRAIN LP). TERRAIN will also take into account the transnational survey of Inter-Connect PLUS that focused on urban mobility and in the respective Roadmap that delves into urban mobility resilience (after COVID-19 mobility era). Inter-Connect and respective cluster networks will be mobilized in TERRAIN too. (EN), SUSTOURISMO ADRION project (& respective thematic cluster experience and network) (EN) | SUSTOURISMO was a visionaire project that was linking green, active and sustainable mobility with sustainable tourism and with the necessary shift to sustainable behavior. Seeking to relief environmental and sustainability consequences of the growing car use by tourists while travelling within the ADRION Region, the SUSTOURISMO project approached tourism under the spectrum of tourists’ engagement in eco-friendly sight-seeing and way of moving around for getting familiarized with the destinations through increasing modal share of active transportation (walking and cycling), Public Transport and low-carbon mobility concepts (micromobility and shared mobility). SUSTOURMOB cycle, the integrated mobility and tourism planning cycle, based on SUMP cycle, and the SUSTOURISMO network will be exploited in TERRAIN too.
CERTH, having coordinated the ADRION Thematic sub-cluster of Tourism in Innovation and ADRION Branding, will mobilize links and contacts. (EN), EIT Urban Mobility (EN) | TERRAIN LP is member of the EIT Urban Mobility, a channel which was proven very necessary for TERRAIN preidentified pilots proposal - EIT UM innovation projects showed the way to TERRAIN partners for specifying their pilots. At project level, TERRAIN will present its results in EIT UM events occasions and further links with its projects will be seeked. Furthermore, in 2020-2022 PP6 was project partner in RIS projects and was closely collaborating with RIS HUB REGEA (leading SUMBooST 2020 project and SUMBooST2 / Sustainable Urban Mobility Boost Smart Toolbox very relevant to TERRAIN goals). (EN), Thessaloniki Smart Mobility Living Lab & European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL) (EN) | TERRAIN LP is the initiator and founder of the Thessaloniki Smart Mobility Living Lab / ThSMLL (https://www.smartmlab.imet.gr/), one of Europe's largest Living Labs. The entire city of Thessaloniki is a platform for testing technological and innovative solutions for mobility, cooperative and autonomous vehicles and will soon be extended to freight transport. ThSMLL is also part of the European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL), an international, non-profit, independent association of benchmarked Living Labs. ENoLL facilitates knowledge exchange, joint actions and project partnerships between its historically labelled +480 members in Europe and worldwide.The above link and TERRAIN experience will be transferred to the rest TERRAIN partners (TERRAIN horizontal mentor). (EN), MOVE21 Horizon2020 project (EN) | MOVE21 promotes co-planning in mobility – its living labs based approach supports the quadruple helix model mobilization. Through the co-identified mobility solutions, the project aims at transforming European cities and their surroundings into smart zero emissions nodes for mobility and logistics. Both the proposed new self-sustaining Living Lab model and the Scan-Med Observatory for coordination, collaboration and data sharing can be unlocking tools for TERRAIN LLs development too. (EN), e-smartec Interreg Europe (EN) | e-smartec project focused on experience exchange among cities and regions for sustainable mobility co-planning and increased awareness for sustainable mobility options. Within e-smartec CERTH/HIT (coordinator) has invested in training seminars for relevant stakeholders on issues related to the SUM planning. Relevant material is also available for motivating children and youths on sustainable mode choices. (EN), TRIBUTE ADRION project (EN) | TRIBUTE LLs will be tried to be kept alive or be in synergy with TERRAIN LLs (in Ljubljana, Zagreb and Sarajevo). Furthermore, TERRAIN good practices identification will take into account presented by TRIBUTE solutions and will uptake and upgrade results by presenting and testing new solutions. (EN), Fast-Track Horizon2020 project (EN) | FastTrack works with 24 urban and peri-urban areas to help them accelerate development of sustainable mobility innovations.The solutions proposed and tested in Fast Track will be further explored in TERRAIN context. TERRAIN ERDF represented cities are all part of this list of 100 cities that will work for smart promotion of urban mobility resilience and sustainability. Sarajavo, also represented in TERRAIN, is an IPA city included in the 100 cities list. This partnership composition is estimated to unlock mobility fast-track solutions in TERRAIN. (EN), ELABORATOR: the European Living Lab on designing sustainable urban mobility towards climate-neutral cities (EN) | TERRAIN will exploit the under development holistic approach of ELABORATOR for planning, designing, implementing and deploying specific innovations and interventions towards safe, inclusive and sustainable urban mobility. (EN), CIVITAS MIMOSA (EN) | MIMOSA results of promotion of alternative fuels, public transport use, awareness, integration and innovation in mobility will be exploited in TERRAIN proposal. (EN), EnerMOB ADRION (EN) | Acknowledging the contribution that the COVENANT FOR INTERREGIONAL ELECTROMOBILITY (EnerMOB MoU) can have in extending efforts in electromobility started within EnerMOB, TERRAIN will try to continue this legacy (TERRAIN LP has signed the MoU, being the respective ADRION Thematic Cluster coordinator). TERRAIN project strongly contributes to Priority 2 of the EUSAIR (European Union Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region) by promoting sustainable, mutlimodal (active and public transport based) and resilient urban mobility. Through collaborative efforts, the partnership aims to enhance connectivity, reduce carbon emissions, and improve transportation systems in main cities of the region. By co-developing (Living Lab based approach) innovative mobility solutions, implementing pilot actions (WP2), and fostering transnational cooperation and effective planning skills (WP2), TERRAIN drives the transition towards greener and more efficient mobility. TERRAIN project aligns with the objectives of EUSAIR to create a sustainable and well-connected region, ultimately benefiting the economies, societies, and environments of the Adriatic-Ionian countries. TERRAIN partners will mobilize their networks and contacts while exploiting ADRION capitalization opportunities for increasing visibility of project approach and outputs that can contribute in EUSAIR Strategy and Action Plan and in the inclusion of urban mobility in the masterplan.
EuropeanGreenDeal TERRAIN project significantly contributes to managing the transition towards the zero-carbon mobility target – the link to EU’s Mission of ‘100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030’ was the inspiration element for TERRAIN proposal generation.
By implementing innovative mobility solutions, promoting sustainable transport modes, and reducing carbon emissions, we actively support the shift towards a zero-carbon mobility future. Through the 9 newly established Living Labs, pilot actions, and stakeholder engagement, we demonstrate practical strategies for achieving this goal. Additionally, TERRAIN aligns with the EU Green Deal goals by focusing on sustainability and resilience in mobility. We embrace strategies such as promoting active and shared mobility, advancing smart and digital transportation systems, and facilitating the transition to e-mobility through the 4 TERRAIN sub-clusters approach. By emphasizing the integration of public transport, optimizing infrastructure, and enhancing policy frameworks, our project directly contributes to the EU Green Deal objectives of decarbonization, sustainable mobility, and a clean energy transition.
Through our collective efforts, TERRAIN is driving the necessary changes and laying the foundation for a more sustainable and carbon-neutral transportation sector and for liveable places (TERRAIN LP is EIT Urban Mobility core member and will further build on this link for achieving EU Green Deal goals).
Other TERRAIN contributes in the 'Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy – putting European transport on track for the future'. It builds on the Inter-Connect PLUS ADRION project roadmap that focuses on the urban mobility next day after COVID-19 taking into account the need to shift to net-zero emissions mobility and to resilient mobility. The project aligns with the 'climate neutral cities' milestone of smart and sustainable track of the strategy through intervening with the key area 'Making [..] urban mobility healthy and sustainable'.

TERRAIN can significantly contribute to the communication from the Commission on the New EU Urban Mobility Framework. It can offer valuable insights, policy recommendations, and stakeholder engagement based on its experiences in implementing sustainable urban mobility initiatives. By sharing real-world examples, lessons learned, and success stories, TERRAIN can help shape effective policies and promote the adoption of sustainable mobility practices across the EU. TERRAIN's contributions will enrich the dialogue and support the development of a comprehensive and impactful EU Urban Mobility Framework.
Other Overall, ΤΕRRAIN vision is to ultimately contribute to the EU Mission of delivering more climate-neutral cities by 2030, included in the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy.
Other For North Macedonia; Contribution to the accomplishment of goals linked with the national strategy that is guided by the 2020 Law on Energy Efficiency more specifically the Energy Efficiency Directive. On a local level the City of Skopje has developed the The Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan which covers a wide range of urban environmental challenges and among the local priorities is the energy supply and efficiency where TERRAIN will contribute. Furthermore, according to the National Strategy of air quality the City of Skopje has Action Plan for air quality as well the Green Plan that is also linked with TERRAIN objectives.
Other For Albania; Durrës Municipality has its own overall vision and strategic objectives with regard to the transport system. The vision is reflected in the General Local Plan of Durrës Municipality, or as it is otherwise known as the Development Plan of the Territory (approved by decision of the National Council of the Territory No. 4, dated 27.27.2022). The General Local Plan, despite emphasizing the importance of public transport and soft mobility, also contains a strategy aimed at improving the conditions of the road infrastructure. In this context, the TERRAIN pilot action will contribute to the Development Plan of the Territory by improving the modal shift. Hence, it is expected to:
- having the ability to plan intermodal journeys, such as knowing which routes are available and their timings, will enhance efficiency (time-saving);
- for non-users, this enhancement transforms public transportation into a dependable service,
- contributing to the redistribution of transportation modes, with pedestrian transport prevailing.
Other For BiH; National - The Framework Transport Strategy of Bosnia and Herzegovina 2015-2030: The objectives set by the Transport Policy of BiH towards the country’s integration in the EU, following the Protocol on Land Transport built into the Stabilization and Association Agreement are: ensuring institutional efficiency, ensuring financial sustainability, stimulating economic development, and addressing the environmental and social impacts. The Framework Transport Strategy of BiH indicates as the key issues integration of transport infrastructure into European and regional transport corridors and further harmonization of regulation in the field of transport with the EU transport acquis. These would be addressed through actions in improving both transport infrastructure and institutional capacities.
Regional - Transport Strategy of the Federation of BiH 2015 - 2030: Related strategic objectives: To be regulated in accordance with EU standards and regulations, to provide the highest level of service at the lowest possible costs, be safe and secure.
SUMP - Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for Sarajevo Canton and the City of Sarajevo for the period 2019-2025: PUBLIC TRANSPORT - 1) Provide accessible mobility to socially vulnerable populations and people with disabilities, Improve the accessibility of mobility for citizens and visitors, 2) Provide economically viable and affordable mobility costs for all zero and low emission transport system, 3) Ensure acceptable, accessible and affordable transport with low carbon emissions, low noise and vibration, 4) Provide easy and quality access to all modes of transport and non-motorized movement 5) Enable quality networking of transport systems into an integrated urban mobility system 6) Raise awareness of alternative modes of transport and movement. WALKING AND CYCLING support. TERRAIN is estimated to support Sarajevo in above pillars.
Other For Slovenia; In Slovenia, the transition to climate neutrality is integrated into developmental strategies at all levels of governance. In 2020, the state adopted a comprehensive strategic document for achieving climate neutrality, namely the Resolution on Slovenia's Long-Term Climate Strategy until 2050. The climate strategy serves as the foundation for all sectoral and other development plans, including the Regional Development Program of the Ljubljana Urban Region 2021-2027, where one of the main developmental objectives is the Green Region of Sustainable Solutions. Within this framework, the Ljubljana Urban Region (LUR) will achieve climate neutrality by promoting sustainable mobility, energy-efficient and sustainable agriculture, sustainable development and management of green infrastructure, sustainable energy management, and climate change adaptation. Terrain will also revise the Regional sustainable urban mobility plan of LUR. At the local level, activities under the TERARIN program will aim to support municipal sustainable urban mobility strategies. City Municipality of Ljubljana in its transition to carbon neutrality within the participation in the EU Mission: Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities. The goal of the PP4 within the TERRAIN project is to extend the efforts of the capital to the entire region.
Other For Italy; The TERRAIN project will potentially contribute to the next update of the metropolitan SUMP. Bologna SUMP spreads over a ten-year time horizon and is updated at least every five years. Within the fifth year from the approval, with the available monitoring data from the past four years, an update of the plan is scheduled.
In this context, TERRAIN activities are compatible with 2025 and 2030 SUMP update tasks. Being focused on soft actions, the Bologna TERRAIN pilot will mainly contribute to communication KPIs. Communication of results obtained through the implementation of mobility measures will be used to create awareness and involvement in the implementation of the Plan. The following KPIs can be used in the communication campaign:
● Public transport (passengers, subscriptions)
● Private mobility (fleet, energy source)
● Accessibility (distance from bus, tram, train station)
● Active mobility (cycling network length)
● Environment (NO, PM, CO2)
● Incidentality (accidents, wounded, deaths)
● Sharing mobility (users, travels, km driven)
The communication campaign developed within the TERRAIN pilot will have its own monitoring and performance metrics that will be used to update SUMP communication KPIs. By contributing to the SUMP update and concrete implementation, the TERRAIN project aims to give its contribution to the more general paradigm shift summarized by the three pillars of the ASI strategy (Avoid, Shift and Improve) - the objectives of which are the promotion of alternative mobility solutions and development of sustainable transport systems - also referred to in the PRIT (Intergated Regional Transport Plan). Finally, TERRAIN constitutes a concrete project that also contributes to the implementation of explicit indications contained in some of Italy's most important statutory state plans such as the National Plan on Road Safety and the the General Plan of Bicycle Mobility.
Other For Serbia; The project TERRAIN contributes to shift to sustainable, net-zero transport and as such it contributes to implementation of strategic goals at all levels – national (Serbia), regional (Autonomous Province of Vojvodina) and local (City of Pancevo).
At national level: Programme of Air Protection in the Republic of Serbia 2022 - 2030 with an action plan. According to the Programme, among other parameters, the Republic of Serbia needs to reduce NOx emissions by 60.6%, PM10 by 50.9%, PM2.5 by 58.3%, VOC by 28.3% by 2030 compared to 2015. Road transport sector is the second largest source of NOx emissions. It should be emphasized that NOx emissions from road traffic have been increasing since 2016.
At regional level, the contribution to implementation of Development Plan of Autonomous Province of Vojvodina 2023-2030, Goal 7. Improved ecological, sustainable and integrated transport system of AP Vojvodina with developed smart management systems, Measure 7.4. Developing an ecological, smart and sustainable transport system – is even more direct.
At local level, it also contributes to Development Plan of the City of Pancevo 2022 – 2028, Priority measure 3.2. Improvement of Air Quality. Pancevo is a Green City which shows its dedication to all green urban solutions.
Other For Croatia; Transforming a street in the center of Zagreb into a pedestrian zone aligns with the objectives and measures developed in the documents "Transport Development Strategy of the Republic of Croatia 2017–2030" and "Master Plan of the Transport System of the City of Zagreb, Zagreb County, and Krapina-Zagorje County." This transformation promotes green mobility, reduces air pollution, noise, and traffic congestion, and encourages the use of public transport, cycling, and walking. This is in line with the general goal of both strategies to change the distribution of passenger traffic in favour of public transport and forms of transport with zero emissions of harmful gases.
Additionally, converting the street into a pedestrian zone contributes to the goal of improving traffic safety. By reducing the number of vehicles in the city center, the safety of pedestrians and cyclists as vulnerable road users will enhance which will lead to overall improvement in the promotion of active mobility. This change aligns with the strategic objectives to create safer and more pleasant urban spaces, encouraging residents and visitors to use alternative, safer, and healthier modes of transportation. By integrating various modes and promoting intermodality, this measure further contributes to creating a coherent and safe transportation system that reflects contemporary needs and trends in urban planning.
Moreover, the initiative for a pedestrian zone reflects the strategic planning at the city level of Zagreb, aiming to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors, increasing the city's attractiveness and competitiveness as a tourist destination and a place to live.
Other For Montenegro;
The TERRAIN project is aligned with several strategies in Montenegro:
Development Strategy of Traffic 2019-2035: Focuses on infrastructure enhancement and EU policy alignment to mitigate traffic's negative impacts.
National Strategy of Sustainable Development: Promotes sustainable urban mobility, emphasizing energy efficiency and multimodal transport systems.
National Strategy of Air Quality Management: Highlights the importance of sustainable traffic policies to address increasing air pollution.
Development Strategic Plan of the Municipality of Berane 2024-2031: Prioritizes environmental protection and traffic infrastructure improvement to reduce net-zero emissions and enhance urban mobility.
Decision on Traffic Regulation of the Municipality of Berane: Regulates traffic and safety measures within the municipality.
Local Plan of Environment Protection 2020-2024: Targets air pollution reduction from traffic through monitoring and implementation of preventive measures.

National:
The National Climate Law adopted in 2022 (Law 4936/2022/17.5. 2022), stipulates, inter alia, a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 and by 80% by 2040, compared to 1990, with the ultimate goal of climate neutrality by 2050. Terrain project is in line with as an ultimate goal to widen the effect of carbon-free mobility. The city of Ioannina focuses in turning the city in a laboratory of pilot activities related to sustainable mobility including biking, walking and promotion of electromobility and therefore, significantly reducing its carbon footprint, caused by private vehicles
Regional :
The Regional Strategy for "Smart Specialization " as well as the Operational Programme Epirus strongly focus on environment and sustainable development, especially through five (5) Strategic Objectives (SO). Two of them are strongly related to TERRAIN project and especially:
- SS2: Environmental protection and sustainable development
- SS3: Strengthening of transport infrastructure
Local:
One of the main challenges regarding Urban Resiliency for the city of Ioannina is “Re-designing land uses of the entire area with a focus on accessibility, sustainable urban mobility and respect to the natural and manmade environment”. On a strategic level, the city of Ioannina has taken the following steps:
- Joined the Covenant of Mayors for the fight against Climate Change.
- Drafted the Strategic plan for Sustainable Urban Development.
- Drafted the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) in order to satisfy the mobility needs of people and businesses in cities and their surroundings for a better quality of life.
- Drafted the Action Plan for Sustainable Urban Energy in order t map the city’s energy needs and achieve the EU and global goals for CO2 reduction by 2030.
- Award the label for 1 of the “100 climate Neutral & Smart Cities” through the signing of the Climate Pact
