Contribution to wider strategies and policies:

  • The overarching strategy Shaping Europe's digital future consists of many strategic clusters, represented by respective policies. STORM_SAFE will especially contribute e.g. to the following thematic areas: - Under Advanced Digital Technologies, the project will contribute the realibility aspect of advanced digital technologies / computing. - Under International Cooperation in Digital, the project will develop a transnational platform the develop transnational outputs.
  • Europe's industrial strategy (2020) strives for sucessful transition in climate neutrality and digital leadership. STORM_SAFE will contribute by adding implementational demonstration and strategic do-how from a highly complex area of making software more reliable and supporting autarky of public institutions. Especially in the areas of Resilience of the single market as well as Multi-Country approaches, the project can demonstrate advantages of digital transformation in the public sector.
  • Europe's TA2030 focuses, amongst other aspects on Sustainable digital and physical connectivity of places as contribution to a sustainable territorial development. STORM_SAFE will contribute by establishing strong digial links between different public infrastructures, e.g. through promoting the remote control systems of the French sluices. Furthermore the TA2030 has, different from the predecessor (TA2020) a strong implementational aspect. Also here, STORM_SAFE contributes with evidence.
  • The European Green Deal does also encompass the new Industrial Strategy (see above). In addition to that, especially two main objectives of this umbrella strategies will be contributed to by STORM_SAFE: future-proof jobs and skills training for the transition globally competitive and resilient industry
  • The IMP is a policy framework aiming to foster the sustainable development of all .... coastal and ..., ... by developing cross-cutting tools. The main objectives and corresponding fields of action for STORM_SAFE of the IMP (COM(2007) 0575) are Improving the quality of life in coastal regions by encouraging coastal and maritime tourism, creating a Community Disaster Prevention Strategy and developing the maritime potential of the EU's outermost regions and islands.
  • Representative to many national or regional policies that STORM_SAFE will contribute to will be the Dutch Water Act. The Dutch Strom Surge barriers have to comply with the Water Act guidelines to insure the safety of the Netherlands. STORM_SAFE will contribute key elements to this by ensuring a smooth and reliable functioning of these vital infrastructures. Similar examples exist in other project partner countries/regions.
  • The Dutch government has a Digital Strategy to become an EU frontrunner in digitalisation. While the EU Digital Strategy provides the framework, it is adapted to NL via the national Digital Strategy, then further to Ministry Digital Strategies. This does also comprise Rijkswaterstaat which led to the development of a digital project portfolio and - amongst other projects - to the development of STORM_SAFE. Similar examples exist in other project partner countries/regions.
